I know I'm getting ahead of myself as I don't have much experience, but I want to eventually own my own truck. I would like to stay local if possible.

Is it possible to do this in central NC? I have read I could haul gas....

What about doing runs from the ports in NC?

    Thank you for your time.

It depends what you want to do.

Either would probably keep you local.

Hauling gas I would imagine pays better but it's more stressful.

Just depends what you would like to do.

I know a couple guys running between the rail yards in Charlotte and Wilmington/Southport that do ok. Out and back in a day and sleep in their own bed.

You know I am just in training to get my CDL. But I'd love to own my truck and just do local runs. I am DFW area. Is this doable? How much can should I pay for brand new dependable sleeper tractor? I mean is there a site like Truecar that you can find out what is a good deal on new Truck with a sleeper?

There should be quite a few dealerships in your area, why don't you go visit a couple of them and talk to the salesman?

There are a ton of them here just like there are a ton of car dealership. I am looking to get data on what a good price on a new truck is from a trusted source rather than a salesperson.

Well, you might want to get your CDL first ;-)

In the interim, Google is your friend, in the search bar just type in "new semi-truck price". There's a few truck paper sights with tons of listings.

Hey, before you even think of this, get on the road and see if you can actually drive and learn what the industry is all about. You have a lot of completion you are facing, they know the market, they know how to make a buck and will cut your throat without flinching while you are pretty clueless and looking at the wrong things to begin with.

Trucks are cheap, they are tools and they require upkeep. The money needed has to be in the bank before you start, but again you jump into this with both feet and without any experience, you won't make a year out of it.

I know I am getting ahead of myself. But I am just curious and want to get an idea of earning potential and different ways to do this.
