So I lucked out and got a local job gravel hauling right out of CDL training. There is the common debate as to whether you have to go OTR initially to later land a local job. But what a bout visa versa? Later when I decide I'd like to go OTR will I be able to make that transition, or will companies frown upon that? What should I expect?

There are hundreds of smaller outfits that never use DAC system so I wouldn't think it would be to hard.
Just stay away from mega type companies and you should be good to go . -
I don't think any company will frown upon you wanting to make the transition to OTR. A lot of them will want you to go out with a trainer for a period of time to learn the in's and out's of the OTR lifestyle and their company policies. A few might want you to go to school outright. Some smaller companies might be willing to put you in the seat right away.
As Marmonman said, try to stay away from the mega-carriers if you can. Best of luck to you if you do try to switch. -
Larger companies won't consider you experienced. I'm sure there will be some smaller companies that would give you a shot.

I went from part time local driving to OTR for a small company a couple years ago. It can be done.
