Oh you can get water loads out of Maine. Problem is they are extremely heavy and pay almost nothing. There are still potatoes in northern Maine and mail runs out of Lisbon that pay somewhat decent. That water though, you're not even making enough for fuel.

What are you hauling out of ME now? You already have face time with the shipping department, find out if they'll use you as an independent. Northeast outbound is always rough. When I first got my authority I was hauling for Hannaford to Schodak and S Portland. I'd occasionally find something going back to PA, but it was a rarity and only paid enough to make me consider it, not jump right on it.

Where in Maine do you live? Do you plan on running local or down the coast? I have a few things that may work. 2.65 a mile but I use them as backhauls. It is very hard to find water loads that pay. But if you do let me know lol.

Water loads are heavy and cheap. The only thing i know off for a van that pays decent out of ME is paper from the mills. My freind does it and the rates are in the mid $2's a mile.

I have two small accounts that leave out of skowhagen Me and up near old town Me. It is dry van freight that pays right around 2.65$- 2.75$ per mile depending on the time of year. Weight is between 20-35000. I wouldn't even consider them accounts but I guess technically they are. It's hauling directly for a shipper I don't know if that causes any problems, but it's decent work. Do u guys have your own authority?
