Ok, now that I got taught a few lessons about taking money and plopping it down on a big rig and riding off into the sunset, I have a new idea.

I can get a big deisel box truck, (not a semi) for about $30,000, low miles late model good condition. Assuming I wanted to use such a truck locally, what could I do with it to make a buck?

I would pay the truck in full, get commercial insurance. Any contract work for a driver and truck like this? Any ideas?

To refresh, I'm the guy, early 40s retired to young, looking to stay busy. So any ideas are appreciated.

I live in a college town. There is a small moving co. in my town that seems to be busy moving stuff around town expecially when the students are intown. Looks like hard work. They have a couple of older straight trucks with lift gates. I see their trucks at rental storage businesses. If there is a self storage business near you you might ask the manager if there is a demand for this kind of work in your area. I am pretty sure this comany in my town is moving college students belongings to self-storage while the student is away for the summer. I also seen this company moving a piano from a music store.
There is also a national company I know of called Two Men and a Truck. They do the same kind of work. Google them and check it out.
Also, We own a expediter streight truck and things are very slow. I would not recommend trying over the road expediting right now.

does it have a liftgate? sleeper?

i guess you could do expedited type services (hot loads like panther or fedex custom critical)

not sure how many companies will give you loads being that you arent an actual company, just a guy with a truck

If he hauls loads he'd better be a company with proper insurance and authority .
