Some truck stops are mostly full because of locals parking there and going home. This is unfortunate because it takes away from the drivers in need. I can’t think of every place like this but there’s a lot of them. If a local parks at a truck stop while home they should pay rent. Some truck stops probably would appreciate the revenue even though they don’t need it.

Is your need more important than theirs? I'm sure that the ones that can park in their front yard are doing so.
Rent??? That's between the property owner and whoever.
I'm OTR and I rent a spot 0-3 times a month. -
I'm sure most places are charging them for it. It's a way to make money.

Shoemaker's in Lincoln NE is a good example, it's at least 1/2 locals. -
Probably works similar to reserved parking.

They move the truck and park the car in the spot so the spot is there when they get back.
