Hubbard OH Flying J. Trying to make a comeback after a terrible last week. Got sent to Queens after my Birmingham load got stolen, as you all heard. I wound up clipping a 90 something POS mitsubishi that was parked in the cross walk when I was making a right turn. I knew it was there but got myself wedged in and broke the tailight trying to get myself out. There are only 2 viable ways in to the customer I was going to and according to NYC DOT website, the better option was closed. Turns out it wasn't but it was one of those deals that if I got down to it and it was, I'd be up ####'s creek.
So that happened. The owner and his boss were some of the nastiest people I ever met. Mind you, I've live in NJ for all of my 29 years. These two topped the cake. The claims dept. said I could leave without waiting for NYPD if the owner agreed. Of course he did not so I wound up sitting there a half mile from my delivery for get this.... 10 1/2 hours before they showed up. No I'm not joking. I wasn't risking some crock of BS hit and run charge or anything. On the plus side I got my break in and had to relay it back to kearny. The cops pretty much told the guy he was S.O.L. for parking there and after showing them the pics they said two cars on the opposite side were parked illegally too. Hence why I couldn't stretch it out.
But enough of that, I made the turn, I hit the car. Not trying to weasel out of it. You can imagine my frustration though considering I was finally supposed to be in the south that morning. The rest of the week was decent until Thursday night when I arrived in Kenton with 9 1/2 hours of drive time left, just enough to make it home since it was night and the roads would be emoty. Nope. I had to park the truck and take a 10 hour break, 2 hours after coming off of one because there was no load. After sitting around all night with my thumb up my ###, I finally get a load around 8 am but then get told I have to go to the hospital for a drug screen. Didn't wind up leaving for home until noon. So yea, that was my week and I was too frustrated to even vent on here. I sat for 5 1/2 hours this morning in Elizabeth, 4 of those just waiting for a door but at least it wasn't NY. Im ashamed to admit, I'm a bit nervous in the truck now but hoping I can put last week out of my head soon. Tomorrow's a new day I guess.rickybobby, CaptainDaveG, sealevel and 9 others Thank this. -

I wonder how many drivers ran over the gate before they put up that sign. I do know that the resort has had problems with drivers destroying their gate. It was run over once and they had a security guard checking drivers in. The next time I was there they put up a new gate. I was back there within the next month and it was completely plowed over again. I have no idea why drivers get so upset with these gates that they run them over all the time.

Sitting there Sunday I watched the inbound gate hit a truck, apparently if your auto-trans dawdles to much the gate automatically closes. Smacked him between the front right tire and passengers door.
AM14, stevep1977 and milehunter43 Thank this. -
They need collision mitigation systems installed on the gates apparently. Not the trucks!
Opus, PoleCrusher, AM14 and 4 others Thank this. -
They have them. However user error (ie hitting the close gate "a" button when you meant to hit open "b") and/or delayed response (ie driver starts moving as the gate starts closing, not giving the magic eye a chance) negates the safety device.91B20H8 Thanks this.

Even the garage has a sensor not to close the door on anything, they can't put that on the gate?
Nevermind they're too chrap!Opus, AM14, 91B20H8 and 1 other person Thank this.
