Im looking at alot of companies in Virginia. Whats going to be the real difference in my time spent home if I pick a place in Ohio? Am I better off (for hometime) picking a Company with a Terminal in Richmond if I live outside of Richmond?

that could work for you. Celadon has that terminal right there at 5600 Midlothian Trnpk.

the old Overnite terminal (probably now UPS Freight) is down the street (across) from it..

but i do not know for sure if Celadon takes newbies. you find out.

this guy here was my dispatcher when i was at Highway Express, that which Celadon bought out...call him or go in person..

The closer you live to a terminal or yard the better for home time. If you don't live near where the truck is headed anyway then you get home when your company remembers to make the effort to get you home and there are no problems.

If home time is important consider to work for companies that are near your home or be extra certain that the far away company is telling the truth when they talk about home time.

Most of the drivers I've talked to with the outrageous "I've not been home for x weeks/months" went out of their way to get screwed. The worst example was a driver that lived in Watertown, NY and hired on with a company near Nashville, TN. Too many drivers think that because a trucking company currently says/has a dedicated customer near the driver's home that customer will never go away. Customers change trucking companies all of the time. If home time is important don't think a nearby customer is the same as a nearby company terminal.

Also, you better be 100% sure you, as a new driver, will be put on the dedicated account. Typically current and experienced employees are given first shot at dedicated accounts. If the trucking company is hiring a newbie to fill a dedicated account it might be lousy work, which is why the experienced current company drivers didn't give up OTR to work dedicated.
