And that is for a key that is the same as a generic Chevrolet key blank.
I could probably buy all new locks and keys for everything for less than that.x1Heavy and Cabinover101 Thank this. -
And the thing that really gets me about the locksmith is that price of $95 is for me to call him and give him the key code and drive over there and pick up the key.
That's not even for any emergency service or coming here.
I called every locksmith in this area and either they could not or would not make it or it was that price.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
You need some of that tinsle that the elves had on Santa Claus the movie

Years ago I worked for a fleet. All the ignitions were keyed alike as ordered. Found each sleeper box was different when someone lost the keys. Called a locksmith on Saturday. They said they would come out and make some keys.
Ended up the owners were out of town and their kids came out. The boy who was driving the key van was probably 16 or 17. His little sister looked to be about 14. She worked with key blanks, a pair vise grips and a file. She would turn the key a little, look at the marks and file it. Over and over. After about a hour she was jumping up and down, waving her arms while screaming. That was pretty cool for a minute. Then they cut some keys with the machine. Don't remember what it cost. Hope I gave them a tip.
I tried that myself at another time but could not do that. Wonder if they start with a special soft key. -
Oh yea. If you have a shaved blank, lose it. They can and will arrest you for it.

Those locks are simple to pick. You can watch a few videos on lock picking and practice on a padlock.
You will probably need to make a “wrench” strong enough to turn the lock because it will probably be hard to turn.
Then you can file the pins down so you can use the key you have now or buy a new lock set.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
It is probably fastest and easiest to just drill it out and buy new locks. -
Cabinover101 Thanks this.

All you need is a tension bar and a simple rake for those older FL side boxes. Open it just as fast as with a key. They are so wore out it makes them easy. On the driver side turn counter clockwise.
BoxCarKidd, Dino soar and Cabinover101 Thank this.
