Please correct me if I am wrong on this...

I met my new trainer at 8am Thursday (owner op). I was in the passenger seat from 8am until 10pm. He had me put down on my paper log that I was in sleeper berth for that time frame.

Where I was actually not in the sleeper berth at all shouldn't I have just been off duty?

I recall my school telling me that you never ever out yourself in the sleeper unless your body is the berth?

I ended up having my husband come get me at 4:30am due to his lack of safety on the road.. ie: driving over his 11, tailgating with less than a small car space in the front of us between other trucks & cars, doing high speeds, blowing his city horn in heavy traffice, and switching lanes like crazy. Oh, this all went down in NYC, not that I feel it is acceptable anywhere.

Any time that you are in the passenger seat you need to be logged ON duty not driving. You can not be in a moving truck and logged off duty. You are either driving, in the passanger seat, or in the sleeper.

i sat in the passenger seat while my trainer drove,he never offered the the wheel to me. anyway broad daylight enjoying the scenery and fell asleep. i woke up and he said next time i fall asleep in the passenger seat he'll write me up. i felt like saying well you should have woke me up,you're the trainer and how about some driving time. i rode with that man for a week and never drove. we went home on the weekend and i didn't go back out. i tried to re-apply to them but they said no, i wonder what he told them?

If im awake during my 10 i'll be logged SB but sit in the passenger seat. Sometimes it gets boring back there. Just jump in the back if ur going through a coop. But u shouldnt be logged Off Duty if ur in the truck. If i remember u said u were training with Swift. Are u on the costco acct? NYC can be hectic at times and most of the local boys drive much worse then that. Fed-ex pulling a set of pups going 65+ in the left lane. But if u dont feel safe definately get a new trainer

Yeah, he runs the costco acct. He sure hauls #####. His qualcomm kept telling him he was out of drive time, but he still drove. I believe he was at 13 hours btw when I jumped off the truck and still planning on another 2 hrs.

PJay you should've notified Swift first about his driving and everything else. Also you should've requested a different "trainer". He wasn't training you.

Im running that account now. If ur interested and can wait a week, u can have my trainer. He lives in mass and weekends home.i know that ive learned to deal with certain quirks that come with this profession and u really do need a tough hide to make it. U do have to do what makes u feel safe and comfortable but also learn to let a few things slide along the way. Pm me with the name of that trainer and i'll find out if this guy knows him. Good luck and dont get discouraged.
