My truck driving job doesnt require a log book since the trips are less than a 100 miles.Longest trip was 89 miles.Im thinking about going to a regional job instead of driving belly dump that Ive been doing for 3 years and I know sometimes that you might have to tear a paper out once in a while. How many of you use the log books that dont have the page numbers on them. I thought they were kind of neat since I heard that the weight and license makes an issue out of ripped out log pages by telling because of the page numbers. Im also thinking of buying my own truck and become an O/O and I heard from an individual that I should use 2-3 log books at a time since he says you cant make any money the legal way! How can several log books help you or benefit you as far as $$$ is concerned? How could you do this? Hopefully someone who been in the trucking industry could school me on how that works. Thanks alot!:yes2557:

yes, this does happen every once in a while, but be fore warned....you will run out of pages if you do this all too often. what i would suggest right now is to buy some log books (generic) at any truck stop. practice doing them on a daily basis...make sure you are NEAT and clean drawing your lines, make sure you correctly spell out the city and abbreviate the state. count up all your hours correctly. practice makes for perfection.

many companies i had worked for had pre-printed logbooks, but all that was there was the company name, address...no numbered pages. one company did not have log books, but log pages which were numbered, but the company never used to file them using the numbers, nor did they care...but i was told by a former co-worker that for a while now the company HAS BEEN using the numbers printed on them....

i wish you well on your 'adventure" of becoming an o/o....i hope you have LOTS of money, for the LITTLE money you will make back.... PLEASE DO NOT EVER USE more than ONE logbook....you run into confusion, as to "which book do i show the DOT cop", should you suddenly be pulled into a weight station. further, God forbid you have an accident, and the search discovers more than one logbook..?? your arse is grass....and IF you WERE found to be at fault for the accident, and you are running more than one logbook....??? well again, i hope you have lots of money or super great insurance, because you WILL NOT survive the lawsuits.

they can't help you, that's a fallacy.....they can only serve to bury you in so much legal ramifications....

stay legal, use only ONE logbook, keep your nose to the grindstone, this is how you earn money.....

the "illegal ways" will be your ultimate demise soon enough....

In all honesty, you really DON'T have to run illegal to make money....work smarter, not harder. If you can't get 1 log book to be able to show you with enough hours to do what you need to do, you probably shouldn't be doing it....besides that, what are you going to tell the auditor when he shows up to look through your logs? If you can't make it look good in 1 log book, eventually it's going to catch up with you.

Imagine this scenerio, you pull into the scales. DOT officer wants to check your logbook. It's a little messy so they take you inside for 45 mins to go through your last weeks log pages. While you are inside they take a drug dog in to check your cab and, oops, they find 2 more log books. Good luck with that.

If you can't make money as an O/O running legal, you ain't gonna make it, period. The days of two and three logbook drivers are over. Besides, as a company driver running for one of the lowest paying companies out there, I made good money not only with one logbook, but an E-log at that! It all comes down to maximizing your use of the hours you have, not trying to create extra hours.

If you got caught with beer in a cooler and nothing happened, you're really lucky. I'm pretty open-minded, but I'd have to draw the line at that one.

Yes there are many ways to run more hours BUT if I post them here Im won't here the end of it. Your better of running legal and as you go, YOU will get the picture if you have the savey on how to MODIFIED your hours down the road. Be warned, when you figured it out, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.

When I say this I mean no harm.

If worrying about how to do log books is your first question about becoming an O/O take all your money you have, even your bank account find a burn barrel put it in and enjoy the pretty colors as it burns. It will save you time because being an O/O is about running a business and not about how to get over on the man.
If you really want to make a go of being an O/O look at NASTC for their seminars about running a business, but I would humbly suggest at the minimum, easing on with a Landstar, Ace Doran, Mercer to get a feel for the industry without worrying overly much about customer base and progressing from there.
