Does interstate just have a glut of drivers inept at filling out log books and running legal? Or are there other forces at work? Wondering how long until elogs are mandated.

According to this article on trucking info from 5 days ago the final rule won't even be issued till sometime in 2014. Which means it will be most likely 6-18 months after that when enforcement begins to allow everyone time to get complaint.

The fairly consistent messages from the office about it. The fact that we've been red lighted at every single CA weigh station for 2 months or so now. The weigh station on 5 near Shasta had two interstate trucks in the inspection bays when I rolled through a couple weeks ago.

Mango and did you look at SAFER? how many violations did you see in the last two months for log book violations? I seen one 7/10 for driver not having medical card nothing log book related. Really isn't log book violations that got the DOT looking at Interstate its the rash of drivers who did not take medical cards to DMV to have on file. Its not enough to just have a medical card anymore DRIVERS must also have the card on file with the DMV. The other issue is drivers getting license suspended and not letting the company know....... the company is making huge strides and cracking the whip thus one violation in the last 60 days and soon you will be rolling with green lights again. As for me I don't mind hitting the weigh stations as I run legal and welcome the visit with DOT as I always come away a better driver from things I learn from the visit. If each driver took each DOT visit as a chance to ask questions and learn from the encounter it would be a welcome experience each time. Happy trucking!

Exactly! So let's stop spreading false rumors about a mandate that is to come in 2014. Some day it may be mandatory, in fact I'm sure it will be; however I doubt it will be in 2014.

Joe: normally I'd agree on the weigh stations, however last week I had to pull into 4 out 5 stations (one was closed) in CA in one day; 2 times I was empty and when loaded it was extremely light (14k in box). Every station had pre-weigh point on the highway. There is a point where it starts to feel like harassment.

I know driver fitness sucks too... Log book violations also make up a large part of our score. I run legal and do not welcome weigh station visits. Its a waste of valuable hours to run. The one in banning takes 20+ minutes just to roll through...
