OK, so I am looking for a good logbook program. My company is pretty small and let me use whatever I want as log as it is clear and easy to read.
I am currently using Logtuit on my wife's iPad. I am a local driver that has to do a grid log because I travel to Davenport and back from Chicago every day and work over 12 hours a day.
I keep a paper log as I drive, I get home, move it all to the iPad and then email the log to my supervisor and she prints it for my file. This way I have the paper log in case I get stopped but have nice clean logs in my file at the end of the day.
I was thinking of buying a printer for the truck with the iPad but the wife is not very happy with me taking over the iPad and I do not want to buy a new iPad just for me to use the logging program.
I do have an old laptop with Windows XP and want to use it exclusively for the logging program.
What is a Printer Module for some of these programs?
Can't I just buy a cheap printer for the truck and print out the log if needed or just email it to the supervisor at the end of the day from the laptop?
Please explain what a printer module is.

You keep a paper log as you drive ... so what's the problem? Send the carrier the original and keep the duplicate and forget about the ipad app. Why all the redundant work? Maybe I'm a little unclear on your needs.
Paper is a good thing. Use it as long as you can and count your blessings.Last edited: Feb 24, 2013

not sure what a printer module is but i run eclipse logs off of dieselboss.com and i love it easy to use many different logging formats like 60hr/6 day 70 hr/8 day bus driver oil field etc. etc. i use a pretty fancy wireless printer set up but in my opinion i way over did it
just buy a cheap printer from walmart and plug it in to ur laptop at the end of day and wala paper logs im not entirely sure on emailing logs as my company wants the paper sent in each week but im sure it can be done some how.
eclipse is extremely easy to use i figured mine out in about a day or so and if u know me that means something lol
plus it comes with a 30 day free trial just go to dieselboss.com download the trial and wala a fully working e-log set up for 30 days after that i believe the normal price after the trial is $60 but according to all my friends who i got to switch and myself we all agree it is worth every penny
it is also very highly recommended on the site
one other thing unless u buy the separete gps device this program will not track you and you can move around any line u want to wherever u want it. it is very very easy to "edit" in fact imho it's actually easier to "edit" than paper logs and will help you to a degree. i can make magic happen with my mouse lolBoardhauler and Dieselboss Thank this. -

You are correct, redundant.
My penmanship is TERRIBLE so I transfer to the iPad.
My goal is to get rid of the redundancy and only use an electronic log.
Before I pay for one, I need to find out if I have to ALSO pay for printer modules? I will not know if it is worth the value UNTIL I know what the heck a printer module is???
The drivers daily log website, in my opinion, is over busy so it is hard to find anything FAQ wise. Couldn't find what a printer module is.

I will be moving to Eclipse and throwing out DDL. I am on the 3rd computer and will be upgrading it this year. -
Eclipse doesnt require a printer module and will work on XP just fine. They do have a FAQ on their website and also vids to explain how to use it. The basic operation is very simple but there are a couple of tricks that you can use too. If I remember correctly it cost $65 and you get free updates (not that there have been any lately) for a year.

Eclipse calls them "templates."
Both programs come with a generic printable logbook sheet and then you can either change it to one of dozens of company-specific forms or (Eclipse) send in a new sheet that hasn't been digitized yet for your logs if it isn't already on file.
They are free (as is a digital signature) if you download the free trial here: http://www.dieselboss.com/software/eclipse_logbook.htm
I am not sure what DDL's policy on making new ones is, but it looks like those that are already made on their site are there for download if you have bought the "full" version.fr8wurx Thanks this.
