Hi, Im just curious if i need to keep a logbook or not for this new job im starting. I read somewhere that you dont need to keep one if you are driving local and no more than 100 miles away from your homebase, If I do what side of the book for my recap? I have a class A so im not sure. I used to drive otr but not local so does anyone have any clues ? thanks

I drove 100-mile radius from 1998-2002. Truck stops sold a book with seven columns on a page to show your start and stop times.

Can someone help me out here please. I have just started this job hualing water to the oil fields, the wants me to keep a log book. now I have read the posts about the 100 air miles and I understand it, but what I don't know is how to fill out the log the right way. some of the drivers tell me that you just log line 4 on duty not driving. is this true???? thanks for your help.

well, what i have done in the past, make sure you do a pre-trip inspection on line 4, now, go to line 3 for about at least 15 minutes, come back down to line 4. you can flag that as "all same city driving". just make sure you enter city/state. if you cross city lines, you have to end line 4 where that would have been, go to line 3, then come down again if your deliveries are in the same (but different city,) from the previous one you were just in.
you got to show that you at least started driving. -
This question seems more of a lazy person question. If you don't want any issues as a commercial driver. Log it as you did it, and follow the HOS. If you do this, your log should never be an issue. The recap is NOT required by law but some companies require it. I recommend it because there is never any question about your total hours, what you have worked, and what you have available.

you should talk to the company, becasue there is a little wiggle room in the FMCSA, I've know of companies that would require you to log On Duty driving even if you just moved your truck from a truck stop parking space to a fuel Island. That's absolutely absurd to me but there are many companies that have stupid stuff like this that some hair brained lawyer told them would protect them from lawsuites.
