By law you are not required to have one
    By compay you are required.

    Question:
If Mr. DOT guy asks for it would you let him take a look at it, or just tell him that you are not required to have one.??

Why are you not required to have one? If your log book is legal, then why not show hiim

If you don't need by law I wouldn't fill one out regardless.

I was thinking they had changed that- or at least proposed to change it? I could be mistaken though? If its current, Id just show it to them if they ask to see it? Don't show it to them if its behind, unless they insist of course, might cause you problems?

When I worked for a local P&d freight company, we were told if we were to get pulled over in the 100 air mile radius and asked to show the logs, just say "my company has my logs on file". We only used log books outside the radius.

Logging locally you use On Duty Not Driving and Off Duty, even driving. It's nothing but a time card and 395.8 rules are out the window. You don't need to be getting all detailed like a real truck driver. :) jk, lol.

We even had a different log book that just showed when we came to work and when we were off. It was handy when once in awhile we'd run over 12 hours or more than 100 air miles. I don't know if you could find such a thing but they were real easy to keep. There's more to the 100 air mile rule than just the miles. I would make sure the company is keeping their part too.

Because we operate within the 100 mile radius we aren't required to keep log books. If we do a trip OUTSIDE the 100 mile mark, we HAVE to keep a log book, and stick with it for that trip.
