If you take it outside the truck, fine, inside the sleeper, you log it as SB. Otherwise, you are violating the FMCSA law stating that your logs must be accurate. Accurate would be SB.

Why the hell are you people so AGAINST logging SB? Does your company penalize you for sleeping, or something?

So you actually confine yourself in that sleeper for 10 hours??WTF!!
No wonder these drivers today drive the way they do!

So, according to you, it's okay to do it your way and falsify logs? Because logging off duty but being in your sleeper is likened to killing kittens

DOT has already said you don't have to change your status from SB if you go use the bathroom in the truck stop. But if you log 10 hours of off duty time when you were sleeping in the SB that is a violation. PERIOD.

Yea, I know, that's all you got. And then occasionally posting a reg you don't even understand.

We know, let the adults discuss this. Have a nice day.

No, I never said that. I said that if it takes 4 hours to get me offloaded and I'm in the truck not helping, I can justify going off duty with an explanation in the comments. But if I want to go SB I have to explain it even further.

    Try to keep up.

Yes sir, gotta log where you are. I've logged 10 hours of SB playing Arma 3. Perfectly legal. I was in the SB as I said I was. SB doesn't mean sleeping, it means "in the truck." Nobody EVER said you have to sleep during SB time. But if you're in the SB, you must log it as SB time on your break. PERIOD. I don't understand, why is the concept of logging your time in the SB so hard? Does it hurt to put yourself in the SB? Does it cause your pacemaker to go crazy? What is it, man? Why?

Don't forget, all you dash cam guys, if they REALLY want to be an ### about it, they can subpoena your cam footage. If your cam shows you in the truck for your break and you show off duty, thats form and manner violation. And don't forget, you might say "I can just close the curtains" Yea, but you can't turn off the outward facing camera that would show you never left the truck after pulling the curtains closed. ELD's are required to show your GPS location for every change of duty status. You go off duty for 10 hours sitting at the parking lot of a Flying J you're going to have hell proving to the DOT that you weren't actually sleeping in the sleeper like everyone else does.

And to all of those people who say "Well I've done it XX years and never been caught" Good. Doesn't mean you aren't breaking the law. How many years have you been speeding in a CMV yet never got a ticket? Doesn't make speeding legal. How many times did you run a couple thou over gross weight and made it? It means you got lucky. A lot of DOT don't even know how to read logs and if they see 10 hours off duty or SB, they don't care. But some of them DO know what they are doing and can see no SB time for a week? "Yea, sir, step out of the truck, we've got an issue here."
