LOL too funny. Got a notice in my email box about a reply to this thread. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the date on the thread.
BTW, I'm using time cards now, simple.

You log the actual time it takes to perform the pretrip or post trip inspection. Logging any other amount of time is falsifying logs.

Log the amount of time you actually take to do it.

If you feel that I'm wrong, please cite the regulations to prove it.
Lots of old threads getting dragged up loldeathB4decaf Thanks this. -
I won’t say you are wrong on the post-trip but originally completing the DVIR was required but the use of the word inspection or stating one was required was not in the Reg. In the recision notice on the DVIR note that they use the phrase pre-trip evaluation as well as inspection. I suspect evaluation should be the more correct. Concerning the post trip the notice in one place states that the DVIR needs to be filed when a defect is noted or reported to the driver during his shift, doesn’t say a driver has to do an inspection. Yet further down the page it states the driver is not relieved of his responsibility to perform a pre-trip inspection or a post-trip inspection. It’s sad when the Feds seem more confused than many drivers. -
How about you provide the regulation that specifically staes that a post trip inspection is required.
Don't bother pointing at anything that that only talks about inspection reports. -
When I read the title of the thread I thought the OP was hauling logs and maybe thought there was a different procedure for loggers....

(a) Equipment provided by motor carrier. (1) Report required. Every motor carrier shall require its drivers to report, and every driver shall prepare a report in writing at the completion of each day's work on each vehicle operated, except for intermodal equipment tendered by an intermodal equipment provider. The report shall cover at least the following parts and accessories:
From there it goes on to state that they will then prepare a report. Reporting is giving an account of something. Now, you cannot provide an account of something you did not do, therefor the wording does show the regulations requiring the inspection.Bank_Lbr Thanks this. -
You guys are killing me and now have me more confused. LOL
1. I’m going to do what’s required by the company as a minimum, and by what’s required by DOT as a middle, and what’s required to keep myself out of court and my CDL healthy as my end all.
2. I have no idea what that is because I’m new, but I will learn it.
3. As an order of operation, logically, shouldn’t your post trip be a more in-depth inspection? That way if you find something wrong you’ve got time to get it fixed during your 10. If you just shut down and do a VI and then find it in you PTI wouldn’t you start burning your clock or wasting time?
