I'm looking for some detail on which line to log time on while within the city limits of your intended place of business. I've been told that once you hit the city limits for your drop/pickup, you can go off duty. Is this true?

Yeah it's true - if you park your truck at the city limits and leave it to go off duty .

Ya know, I have used a forum or two in my day. However, digging through pages of posts on a BlackBerry is not exacly efficient. I figured it was a simple enough question to just throw out there.

Oh, and this is what happens when your link is clicked.
"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

    Thanks anyway.

Do you stop driving once you reach the city limit sign? Of course you don't, so you stay on line 3, there is an exception to this.

Lets say you have three stops in the same city, you can accumulate the time driving between each stop, and put the total in one section of your line 3, but with this you also can put the appropriate combined stop time on line 4. Just be sure to note that you have 3 stops, on each info flag for lines 3&4.

Outside of that example, line 3 whenever you are behind the wheel...to put it simply.

    onelikeseabass Thanks this.

I was taught, in school ( I know not the real world, every says), only log driving time when you are actually behind the wheel. If you are on duty, but not driving, log accordingly. If you are off duty, you are not doing anything work related (being away from home does not count).

Anybody can learn that from a $5 FMCSA Safety Handbook at a truckstop or free online at the FMCSA website .
