One of my bosses just came out with something that I have never heard of and I wanted to know if anyone else has heard of this.
The mill that we pull out of as a dedicated fleet has a warehouse 12 miles away in another town. We pick up a load at the mill, take it to the warehouse and sometimes bring back an empty trailer and other times bobtail. I always put 15 min down, 15 drop and hook and 15 back for a total of 45 min. Often we will do 2 of these loads back to back and some days 3 or 4. I am aware that if you have multiple drops in the same city you can log it all on line 4. I am also aware of the 100 air mile rule if you return to the terminal every day. My boss just told me that since this location is within 50 miles I can log it on line 4 even if I then take a load 200 miles out.
Anyone heard of a 50 mile rule? Sounds kinda fishy to me and I didn't take him up on it.

Never heard of a 50-mile rue. I've logged trips like that just like you did
-
Maybe it is something like the 10 second rule when you drop food on the floor!
-
there's no such rule. you don't need a log PERIOD unless your working over 12 hours or driving OUT of the 100 mile radius.
-
When I worked a yard truck I was on the clock by the hour. I would run a load within the hundred miles and get paid mileage for the load. I still did the logs although the company told me I didnt have to because I thought they were wrong on this point. You are either on the clock or not imho and I wasn't interested in getting into a peeing match at a scale with DOT on this point.

Exactly. Seems like one of those urban myths that pop up from time to time.
