In Chicago suburb steel plant. Arrived around 1300 hours checked in dropped my trailer for the yarder to get. Around 6 p.m. I went inside to see what was the hold up. No info and they said to check back around 2000. The time rolls around and I go back in and they had shift change so the office person had no knowledge of this event.

I gave them my trailer number again and they said to come back in in 30 mins. Come back in and they said that no trailer is there with that number. They checked my BOL# and so along, no idea where it is. I call night dispatch and explain the fiasco they said keep checking in every hour or so and roll around midnight since I'd have now have a "10 hour break". NO THANKS.

2230 I check one more time and again they can't find it but the paperwork shows it was loaded and dropped for me. They say go check the drop yard, it wasn't there. I say screw it and go to bed.

I get up early go in the office, still they cannot find it. Around 0930, a yarder comes and asks what my trailer number was. I tell him and he says he found it. They loaded it yesterday and dropped a trailer in front of it blocking it in inside the factory where I am not allowed. Long story short they never noticed it being there. So I had to wait until the trailers blocking mine in was finished and around 1330 they drug it out.

I did not get a penny of detention pay because this shipper was the #1 customer of my company and they did not want to upset the with a $265 detention fee. Gotta love the way it goes sometimes.

Northrup Grumman at hampton Va. Took from Tuesady 10 am till Thursday to unload less that 5,000 lbs of metal. Worst place I ever been security is a bunch of "BIG BROWN COWS" straight out of the affirmative action training manual. Ever wonder why it takes so long for the navy to get a aircraft carrier built? Go there and see why. There must be three navy inspectors for every worker at that plant, With all the navy personal there they could build their own ships. Imagine a monkey hold a football in it's lap moving it up and down rapidly and you have the picture. I did get paid one day detention at 375.00, but I'd never go back there.

Longest was about 36 hours. Showed up at a place making fruit popsicles, two docks. Checked in, backed against an open dock with the reefer running. They tell me there's a problem. Won't be loaded until that even (this was first thing in the morning). But, I'm free to stay parked against the dock (just close the doors, turn the unit off if I want). There's a problem with the assembly line. The 'freezer' isn't freezing the pops, and they come out as water and got everywhere. That night, still not loaded. Went to sleep. Next morning, repairmen are there working on the line. They had about half the load in the coolers waiting to go. Finally late in the afternoon the next day, they tell me the customer wants them now and to just send what is in the freezer. So, I got paid to sit, several boxes of very expensive fruit popsicles, and a load half the weight I was told it would be. Not bad. Nice sushi bar nearby and a pizza joint I could walk to.

Back in the mid 90's dropped a loaded LANDSTAR trailer at a manufacturing plant and it sat there for nearly 2 years.
