You would figure trucking companies would tell their drivers to stay off of highways like US-50. The costs of a breakdown in the middle of BFE Nevada must be astronomical.

Not the longest but I'd say I99 in Pa is pretty desolate for it being over 70 miles and the most populous town along it is actually a college lol........also I15 from South of Vegas to Barstow is as desolate as can be......

50 in CO is beautiful. But that was a vacation on our way to Frontier Days. Never seen the NV 50.

I remember driving across country in the 70s. Most was desolate. No McD (occasionally a Stuckey's) and gas stations were few and far between. Radio stations were spotty. No cell. No GPS. Nada. And waiting for the AC to freeze up or your radiator to spring a leak was fun.

Hwy 93 from Twin Falls, ID to Ely, NV was my least favorite then. Straight, no other vehicles, mountains on one side and desert on the other. Didn't even feel like you were moving. Getting to Ely wasn't a great treat either.

I refuse to ever recognize the existence of "I-99".

How did they get away with putting a 99 between 79 and 81 where it doesn't belong??

I'm surprised you were the first to mention the salt flats.

I see your line of reasoning, but what else could they use? All the other odd numbers for north-south interstates were used... and 99 doesn't connect with any of them, so it couldn't carry on the designation.

Kind of reminds me of how the SC DOT got by with naming the (ACTUAL) I 26 spur going from I-26 into Greenville SC I-385. I still can't figure that one out!
