Honestly if these are really discussions you’re having with “drivers” then you really need to take a hard look at who you surround yourself with.

typically, what happens is the drivers don’t like their situations and they end up coming to me to complain, like I’m gonna have an answer. I just forward/dump it to truckers report (names fitting) and all of you really saying the same thing I’m saying half the time.

What’s happening is people are being sold one thing, told another and stuck with a job that they don’t like or were given the brunt end of the stick.

Trucking is fairly simple yet made complicated for differences of money, greed or other confusing terms or formulas. But in theory it’s get a license, get in drive, get paid, save money, grow with experience.

Society, especially the younger generation have no patience and they want everything immediately. Instant gratification at the fault of technology or social media. You could literally tell someone flat out just do flatbed for two years all the doors will open up for you and 6 months into the two years they quit & go on a local route. But then they’ll complain about the job that they’re at and how they feel like they’re always at work and when they go home, they sleep. So then they put together how they’re gonna be an owner operator by getting a day cab and then gonna drive all around the country and just sleep in hotels. But if they drove OTR for two years, they could’ve just bought a sleeper went home weekly.. everyone’s trying to one up but their really going no where fast and let down.

I could be wrong, but this is just my general assumption from seeing it happen over and over again. and then following up with these drivers as time goes on to see where they’re at or what was the actual outcome.

sorry forgot we all work for the President of the USDOT/FMCSA “Diesel Dave” he tells US who we’re allowed to communicate with. Also hands out or approves what drivers have class A B C licenses and endorsements. Reviews all job placements in the land, he’s like the landlord of transportation, everyone pays him attention. He makes all final decisions on federal regulations. Make sure everyone on the platform asks Diesel Dave for permission. Everyone such as packers, forklift ops, crane ops, dispatchers, brokers, hr, analyst, load planners, safety reps, state/fed rat-cops, fleet owners, Fortune 500 companies, any shippers & receivers… even ports, boats & planes including the trains… anything in transportation must go through diesel dave.

It doesn’t really change what I said earlier. One of the best thing to remember is you can’t change the people around you but you can change the people around you. It has to be a little bit draining on you just listening to the negativity all the time.

I realize we all have bad days and complain, but the stories you relate make it seem like it’s never ending for you to have to listen to this stuff. Maybe I’m just getting old and grumpy but there are times I tell my own brother that if he’s really that unhappy doing what he’s doing then maybe he should find something different to do. And after a day or two he’s back to normal. Lol.

You make a lot of generalizations of the entire industry based on a group of people you talk to and I think that’s where the pushback comes from. You’re saying it’s normal to leave jobs after a few months and those of us who’ve been in the industry a while are shaking our heads because we and the people we talk to and have friendships with aren’t like that. One of my closest friends has only worked for two different companies since the late 90’s. We’ve never dealt with the scam companies from Chicagoland so it blows our mind that people would even fall for that stuff. But you are correct, this new generation wants everything right now and that’s how they keep getting burned.

Since 92 I've had 4 jobs but 1 was just a few months to transition to current gig, which will be 14 years this summer.

Above all else remember this. There have been approximately 100 billion people live on this planet since it’s existence. If you take all the different combinations of DNA that circulate this globe you, have an ONE IN 157 billion chance of being here. But here you are! Lucky to even exist. The odds of that are like winning the lottery three times in a row. At the end of the day you should try to make it count. If you like truck driving for a living, then do that. If you don’t? Some of you might have to do it anyhow. You got kids in a family to support. But you should work towards doing something else. Life’s too short to do something you hate.
