If you carry, I would shut up about it. I would never mention it on a public forum. I would just do it and never, ever tell anyone I had it.

I remeber on more than one occasion where I was legally parked in a bad area... And an officer knocked on my door to check on me, and specifically asked it I was armed. I always answered in the affirmative. They ALWAYS said GOOD, we will be back to check on you every hour or two.

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. And things are not what they were out here a year or two ago. It is going to get ugly. In my area, bank robberies are a weekly thing. And it is coming to all of our neighborhoods real soon, especially if you haul anything of value. They will kill you to get that load of lunch meat or toilet paper. And I am not talking about you even trying to refuse the theft of your load. They will kill you dead, and then bust your trailer open. That is how it used to be, and I can see it happening again.

You know what, it may just save a newbies life. Go through my truck, nothing there. This ain't a picnic out here, and things are going to get bad. I get daily updates of thefts and the truck stops they happen at.

You want my load, go for it, you can have it. But the way it used to be, which I can see happening, it is going to get ugly out here real soon. I at least want a fighting chance. I do not carry, but am thinking about doing it again. Allot of animals out here that could care less if they kill you or not. I can tell you true stories of all sorts of incidents, MURDERS, from not that long ago.

Look, the economy is tanking, people are desperate, and the animals out here could care less if they kill you for a nickel. They are five cents ahead at the end of the day, and you are dead.

I am as pro gun as you and I suspect more so. I sold guns for 13 years. I am far right.

There are a lot of kuckleheads out there. They will carry and get caught, loose there job and maybe go to jail or prison.

Carrying is a personal decission. In most cases you will be breaking the law, your company's policies or trespassing at a shipper or consignee.

    You have to be discreet.

    Your are right
What sucks is having to hide what our constitution states as a right not a privilege

I agree totally with what you are saying. I was in the service and a surgical nurse in Detroit (DMC) prior to trucking. AND I grew up in a household with a loaded long or shot gun in just about every corner and a hand gun on the dining room table. And a trigger lock was just a frame of mind.

We were taught gun safety the old fashioned way. My grandparents, God rest there soles, had to deal with the animals out of Detroit more times than I can remember. They owned a grocery store. I will not go into details. I know all about firearms, and I know stupid. But I also know reality, and brother, the spam is getting ready to hit the fan.

Just my .02 and I hope I am wrong.

Hi, I hate to stop this conversation, but if you live in the region of linehaul do you have to do the linehaul or can you do the longhaul. Do you choose. Me I would like to do the longhaul to see the country and make $$. Thanks, be safe, and Merry Christmas.:biggrin_25525:

If you are within the boundaries of Line Haul, you can choose to go Line Haul or Long Haul. You can start in one and switch to the other. There is no restriction to how many time you can switch.

If you are outside of the boundaries, you have to go Long Haul.

If there is not an overpowering reason for you to be home every weekend, I would suggest that Long Haul is better. Because you are working more you make more money. You get longer runs, so you spend more time driving than Line Haul.

You are given adequate time to make delivery. Quite often I could deliver a day early and did so.

You can drive the hours you want, just as long as you deliver on time. I like to sleep in, so I would get a later start than when I was on Line Haul. You can choose to drive late, early, in the day or at night. And you have a shorter day, usually.

One the down side, you have to manage your hours much better. You will have to work recap hours.

You will be travelling to different parts of the country and may run into more bad weather.

We all cope with driving long hours differently. I had Sirius Radio, all kinds of books on CD, Language CD's, the Bible on CD, I occupied my mind constuctively.
