Look for an new CD in dash player

Pioneer, Sony, I've got a Panasonic in my truck that's alright. Just head on over to Best Buy and fiddle with the display units till you find one you like.

 

I just bought a new Alpine with built in sirius satellite receiver, cd, etc. Just installed it yesterday and wow what an improvement over the stock panasonic.

 

One thing I just did was take out the stock rear speakers in the ceiling, bypassed them by plugging in more wire that now runs to my 6x9's in boxes sitting on the shelves in the sleeper, and put the stock ones back in. Sounds much better, took about 10 minutes, and nobody will notice unless they take a close look.

 

Never done a volvo. Kenworth just ties the wires together with electrical tape and I use wire nuts to connect them to the new stereo. I don't know if they make adapters for factory plugs, if it even has one. Best take it out and look to see what you're dealing with. On the KW it's much easier to remove the glove box and pull the wires out through there instead of trying to fit your hands into the hole in the dash.

 

the only radio that will drive that 9 speaker w/sub sustem that volvo uses is a volvo radio all the aftermarket radio's will not sound as good. you need to turn them up to much and even then they will not drive the sub right and also try to find an aftermarket radio the has weather band..!

 

I doubt that. Never seen a stock system that uses that many speakers with an amp built into the head unit. Especially not with a sub. That means there's a factory amp hidden somewhere. That also means that the factory head unit puts out less power, not more. An aftermarket stereo might in fact burn the amp out unless you use the preamp outputs instead of the regular ones. I'd check over every inch of that truck to make sure there wasn't an amp hidden somewhere in the circuit before putting a new stereo in.

If there isn't one, and you're absolutely sure of that, then you might need to wire in a small amp or a powered EQ to make up the difference. Basic head units aren't designed to drive that many speakers by themselves.
