    Early 70's Lafayette CB.
My old Uncle had to move in with family due to needin help cuz of his age and as we were going through stuff he came across this. He let me have cuz he knew I was into CBs which was awful nice of him.
Anyways, it looks like it only been used a quick time or 2. In the box with manuals and a bunch of CB magazines, price and parts list from 1971 from a shop in Minnesota somewhere. Don't know if she works, kinda afraid to plug her in. My Uncle don't really remember all the details anymore other than he just didn't want to use CB no more.
Any info ya got on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Well it's a single side band radio which is good.

However most sidebanders use channels 35-40 and yours only goes to 23.

If that were my radio I'd just plug it up and let it rip. Chances are it will sound better than 99% of the radios out there unless it's been modded to hell and back. But it sounds like it's been in storage for a long time. So maybe it didn't succumb to the "golden screwdriver" techs of today. Maybe if it was ever opened up, was during the days where not just any rookie off jump street with a soldering iron could be a CB tech....if you know what I mean.

Do you know for a fact it's from 1971? Or is that just a guess? Looks newer than that to me...like maybe 1975.

I doesn't look like anybody has monkeyed with it. Not sure as to the year. There was a handfull of parts list and cost from March of '71 in with it so I am assuming. I'm tempted to plug her in but like you mentioned, it's only a 23 channel.
Besides, I've got a Cobra 29 in my p/u truck and a Cobra 75 in the Yukon (family truckster-wife don't really use CB much because of all the potty mouth and she's got the kids w/ her quite a bit, but thought it was nice to have it when needed)

One day when i'm feeling nostalgic, I'll plug her in and see what happens.

DO NOT JUST PLUG IT IN!!!!! If this radio has been setting for years without being powered up then most likely the caps (capacitors inside the radio) have dried out from lack of use. If that's the case and you plug it in you may just ruen the radio. If you want to try it out find a shop that has a vereact (spelling?) that you can use to slowly bring the power up, this way it is not as hard on the electronics as if you just turned it on with out one.

Having a boat load of old radios like this i would either sale it on Ebay or put it on the shelf to look at. You cant find parts for the old radios anymore and even though it may very well work fine when you turn it on i myself would not take the chance.

By the way. Old radios like this have receive that will blow away any of the newer radios but at the most will only do around 5 to 10 watts of clean power. You try and stress it to get more power than that and you will start blowing things!

Thank you CT. I appreciate the input.
I will be the first to tell ya I am an end user of a CB. I don't monkey with the inner workins cuz I know enough to leave alone what I don't know nothin about. I've got no idea what that thing might bring on eBay and would guess no more than $50 and then I would have to ship it too. My original intent was not to sell it anyways. It hardley seems worth my time to try and sell it, especially considerin I got it for free.

If ya'll know anybody that's intersested in this thing, PM me and we'll work sumpthin out. Otherwise I'm just going to plug her in and see what happens one of these days.

There are collectors out there that will pay good money for radios like this. It would not hurt to put it on Ebay, you may get more than you think. Hell, i spent $400.00 for a 23 channel Browning cb last year that was in like new condition, just the same way yours is. I have even paid much more than that for those "old radios'.

You would be surprised at what that rig will bring, dont bank on it selling first round or two.Plenty of Radio Hawks cruise the bay for stuff such as that.(just not every week)

Ive done battle with several over the years, found the stupid side of several as well :biggrin_2559:
I have one just like that one in a pristine box,I gave $150 for mine.

It sits with over 700+ other radio classics here in my shop(I collect radios).

    Nice!

I used to have a '70s Cobra 29, inherited from my late uncle. Loved it. Unfortunately I put it in my trunk one day - unbeknownst to me, the weather seal around the trunklid had failed. Had a bad rainstorm that night which proceeded to flood the trunk. The CB was toast. Failed to work at all despite being left to dry indoors, sitting directly in front of a dehumidifier for a week straight. :(

I still have a couple Midland 13-861s. Nothing more than paperweights at this point, though, since they have that proprietary mic connector and I don't have a mic for either of them. :\
