Gotta laugh at the title, at any rate howdy everyone!
I’m moving up to Anchorage, AK in a few weeks and have been pondering truck driving.
I have no experience driving trucks, nor do I have a CDL.
The only related experience I have is 2 years as a pizza delivery driver.
I’m also from Arizona, so I’m worried about that impacting potential applications based on the difference in driving conditions.

I’m 37, no felonies and not even a parking ticket on my driving record.

I’m looking for advice here, or any information on companies up there that hire and train new drivers. I’ve recently Inquired at a few places like Carlile but I’m still awaiting responses.
Any honest advice or direction would be much appreciated!

    Thanks
    Arnold

I knew a guy from Anchorage and he was an IDIOT. He drove down a snowy highway in Utah doing 70 and took my brother's car right off the road. Experience in one climate or another doesn't mean much, imo.

When I lived up there they wouldn’t even consider giving jobs to those who were not residents. So, if I were you I’d establish residency ASAP.
As far as driving up there goes, it is one hell of a place to learn that’s for sure! When it’s bluebird sunny skies it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. But, when it’s winter and snowing out it is one of the nastiest places on earth. You better be resourceful too, because often times you’ll be hundreds of miles from the closest village, and there’s a good chance that village will not have many services at all.
I don’t know, but I think I’d get some experience in sunny Arizona before I decided to have my cherry popped in the last frontier.

    Sirscrapntruckalot and austinmike Thank this.
