A year ago, I went to Drivers Solutions for USA Trucks and earned my CDL-A. My trainer kept me for 5 weeks running team routes rather than solo. After getting my own truck I really discovered what a huge mistake I made. Now as a former Marine, Im really not all that picky. I actually find sucky working conditions more comfortable than a cushy job. Spending a year-long tour humping a 240G across the world will do that to ya. But when I get stranded in Jersey for 4 days with no good excuse I start to lose it. Who cant get freight going out of Jersey?! What really got me was spending 28 hours at a hole in the ground terminal sitting in a broken recliner in a room with no heat during a white out with a snack machine for food in PA waiting for ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. No thanks :biggrin_255:. Thats not including the time my FLEET MANAGER cursed me over the phone for not driving through an ice storm along I-40 in NM. Nobody was on the road that night. I did that for 4 months.

After that, I drove and operated a combination of trucks and equipment for two different companies. I then had to take a break to get a service-related injury worked on. Now that I am good to go again I find myself missing the road but I'm extremely weary about any company now. I have a friend who drives for Trans-Am and he leases his truck from them. I know alot of folks say stay away from lease options, but he does well for himself and likes it too. The concept is appealing to me, but again Ive heard horror stories and don't buy into anything very easily. I would like to pull skateboards or reefers. TMC was actually my first choice coming out of the service, but I don't have 5 years verifiable work history as Ive been in business for myself for quite some time(under the table of course). A huge thing for me is I dont want to leave my dog behind again. He helped me recover from the physical and mental horrors I experienced in the Corps and I cant see myself leavin him behind again. Is there hope?

If you don't like sitting. And you want a flatbed. Give Watkins & Shepard a call. YES, I do drive for them.

You'll have to do a dry box for about 90 days before they allow you to switch to flatbed. But, that's not that long of a period.

IF you call them. You'll wind up with a bit of a shock when they discuss rate of pay. But take the time to discuss additional pay details. I really thought I took a hit on my pay when I came here. But, additional pay perks have proven to be quite substantial. They pay for things that most companies don't. IE every stop is a paid stop. Including the first and last.

Layover is paid at 24 hours, not 36 or 48. I've only collected layover once in the past 8 months. My average length of wait time, has been around 3 hours. Typically, I have a load within the first hour.

As with any brag about any company. Do you research, give them a call. Then decide.

Yes they are. But it is high!! I think the deposit is $500.

But, it is refundable provided you take care of the truck and pet ;) Unlike another company with red trucks.
