I spent a week in Tybee Island, GA years ago. Fell in love with that place and considered moving there. Went back to check it out again and it looked like a dump with high crime. Don't know if it's still that way or not. That was a few years ago, so maybe it's nice and friendly again. Tybee Island was the only place I would consider living in Georgia.
Now I stick to states with no state income taxes anyway.

I wondered that too, if I were OP, I'd apply anyway. I'd let them tell me no.

 

Whatever you save in FL for taxes.....you will likely end up spending it on:

• MUCH HIGHER homeowner's insurance
• fuel (it's always markedly higher there -- than GA or AL)
• housing (that's actually hit or miss -- but it's generally much higher in central and southern areas)
• hurricane preparations/supplies/repairs
