i'm all for being paid less when you start out. however i keep and only keep getting offers from the worst companies - all OTR and all starting at .26 cents a mile. one of those companies CR England asked me to pay 100 to start. forget it.

any ideas on any decent companies in my area. preferrably local, but obviously regional or if its decent enough, OTR?

i have looked, i've applied at the following places

    CR england
    Werner
    bozzuto's Inc.
    Knight
    Schneider
    Maines - Already denied
    Swift
    JB Hunt - Already denied
and a few other local places

i'm looking to getting my tanker and hazmat endorsement and hopefully those two things should certainly help me out.

what all does anyone else think

    safe driving out there

Ever thought of looking into LTL? I have never spent 1 night in a sleeper in my 5 years. I hooked on with R&L Carriers right out of school in a driver/dock position. (I never once worked the dock by the way) Almost all of the LTL companies do it. They'll hire you and bring you along slowly. As in, they won't send you into downtown Boston at rush hour on Friday of a holiday weekend for your 1st run with them. LOL. You will however, fingerprint freight. You will also however, get paid by the hour, for each and every hour your on the clock. Once there for a while you'll be able to bid into way better runs that pay even more. :yes2557: Oh yeah, you'll also sleep in your own bed every night...

This is just another avenue for you to think about while looking for that elusive first job. Hang in, it'll work out, trust me! And good luck with whatever you choose!!

I hate to tell ya, but you may be facing an up hill fight, until u get a few yrs exp, it will be tuff in the begining, no matter the co u work for. I would try to work for a co. That goes at least 4 states.

Most smaller co. Are guided by how much exp u have vs what the ins will charge them for u to work for them.

been at my most recent employer for 4 years. i'm 27 with a completely clean mvr and no criminal record.

my work experience has all been customer service. all of it. bank teller, call centers, loan processing and servicing, mortgages car loans, life insurance, disability income insurance. stuff liek that. i'm just looking for a change. and i want it to be trucking. i'm trying to stay positive but with a baby, a 7 year old, and a wife at home, going over the road is a difficult lifestyle that i want to accept as a last resort. again, being as respectful as i can be, i can easily take a job at any one of the places breathing down my neck, but i'd rather not contribute to the downfall of good wages in this industry becuase i "just needed another job"

LTL, your local beverage/food service company (if you don't mind really physically demanding work ) , if you have the tanker and Haz-Mat endorsements try the fuel hauling companies close to you...great pay in all of those choices, plus the home-time that you want too. The myth is these companies won't hire school boys...not true...not true at all...some do but many don't , you just have to knock on doors. One word of advice though.....do your searching on the web...but do all of your talks in person. Once you find a good prospect GO SEE them...don't be victim to the "on-line ap." screening process. If you really want a GOOD job any Good job , go look at the man , eye-to eye. Its worth the effort , speaks well to your character , and could possibly get you hired on the spot. The "old fashioned" way of appying for those life-time career jobs still holds true.....easy for a guy to say NOPE don't need you while he has you on the phone , or we'll take your ap...on-line.....Good Luck!
