I AGREE, LOOK AT BEER TRUCK CO, AND SODA CO. FOR THE REGION U ARE IN. THEY MOST LIKELY WILL PAY ABOUT 37,000-40,000 AND YOU CAN CANCEL YOUR GYM MEMBER SHIP (lol), BUT U WOULD BE HOME DAILY AND HAVE A WEEKEND DAY OFF.

I HAVE SEEN TO MANY LAZY PEOPLE JUST FILL OUT A WEB BASE APP, AND THE ONES I HIRED WALKED THREW THE DOOR, OR WAS REFERRED. IT DOES SAY A LOT MORE ABOUT U WHEN YOU SHOW UP IN PERSON TO MAKE CONTACT, ALSO BE READY FOR AN INTERVIEW ON THE SPOT. LOOK AND DRESS THE PART SO DO A LITTLE HOME WORK FIRST.

Although there are tons of people on this site that will readily advise people to acquire a CDL from a private CDL school as opposed to a training company CDL academy, which costs significantly more instead of getting tied up with one of those low paying training companies, the truth is regardless of how you acquire your CDL, you will still nonetheless have to start out with one of those low paying training companies regardless. Plus no matter what, you will also have to pay for the significantly higher training that a private CDL school cost as well.

Therefore, the moral of the story is to acquire your CDL training as cheaply as possible, because regardless of how you acquire it, you will still nonetheless go to work for one of those low paying training companies as you are in the process of finding out the hard way currently. Nevertheless, there is still hope. Drive for one year with no service failures and preventable accidents, and you should finally be able to acquire a significantly better paying job. Live and learn.

Ask Schneider and Prime if they have a tanker division in your area; they both hire new CDL grads for tanker work. Check Greatwide about food service logistics divisions in your area. Check the Careerbuilder website also. As Tonythetruckerdude said, food service pays very good. Some trucking companies do food service logistics for grocery warehouses, fast food, Walmart, etc. & the weekly pay is much higher than doing OTR with the same company.

Have you considered looking at NFI Industries? they are everywhere and do van flatbed and tanker, a lot of there runs get you home every day too. You wont get rich but you will lpay your bills and they keep you busy. I worked for them years ago before i bought my truck and i was happy, easy job decent equipment and my dispatchers were good people. They also take new guys well they did at least.

i tried them. they're all looking for experience. i'll just keep grinding and showing up to places and i'll Call NFI to see if there are any jobs without experience required.

got a decent offer for a regional (she said northeast region so north of virginia and east of ohio, her words) route for Schneider on the JC Penney account. i'm pretty excited but nervous at the same time. anyone have any insight on what i should be expecting?

the recruiter says its .42 cpm to start but training is 18 days long and its $80 a day during training.
50 bucks a stop plus another 20 for every stop thereafter during each run. usually no more than 3 stops per run and she said it woudl be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1800 to 2400 miles a week.

does this sound right? it sounds too good to be true.

I know everyone is going to scare the bajeebies out of you as far as the N.East, honestly I never had a problem with it,and I wàs household which means I got in some real hairy predicaments...
ive had my rig sitting in front of Times Square, apt complexes on Long Island,I've had to back 5 miles in Queens right out of the gate. So really it's just congested and alot of tolls.if you are just starting out, traffic can be "not such a bad thing" bc you can go slower and focus on where the heck you are and need to be instead of being hurdled into somewhere where you shouldn't be i.e. "cars only" side of the Turnpike,or a Parkway. TAKE AN ATLAS WITH YOU, it's ok to have a GPS but you HAVE to refer to your map to make sure trucks are allowed.
Once you get South of Quantico on 95 you'll be able to start breathing again...Hee Hee

Never settle for 25 cpm or something in that range. Why new guys to the industry think they have to work for less? DON'T DO THIS! ... You are all worth more than that. Don't let all the BS companies brain washed you. They just want idiots to work hard for nothing in this first year or so, so they can profit heavily. Don't listen to all this crap they tell you. Think for yourself and remember one think which I believe is very important and hard to get at the same time. YOU ARE THE ONE WHO CALL THE SHOTS.

that is not true. Don't settle for pennies. Go and get what you're worth. You don't have to work for low paying training companies in your first year.

You're wrong here space cowboy....the OP does not have to settle for those jobs. If he looks around , takes some time to do the research , and spends a little shoe leather in the process.....odds are in his favor to find a decent prospect.
