Calm down, how do you figure you're supporting him? He never said he was unemployed or anything else. You need to calm down and let the man ask his questions. There's nothing wrong with trying to find the best situation for the driver. He has some options now so please back off and let him be.

Several thousand dollars of a Grant is my money aka tax payer money its not wrong to give some one a little dose of reality sometimes if it aint me its going to be the prospective employer. No biggie im not saying he cant eventually bring his pet but dont come walking in saying Im a noob and a company must do this for me or that for me it dont work like that.

True on some of your points, it is grant money but look at it this way. It's better to teach a man to fish then to give him a fish. So we're teaching him to fish. As far as the pet,etc... Some companies have a no pets policy period so there's nothing wrong with him trying to find the ideal situation for him and his pet. Obviously he needs to be realistic and make appropriate adjustments but he should look around to see if he can get what he wants before he gets rid of his pet.

Hi. I'm new to this site, and I am not sure if your post is from Canada?

If it is the gov has just put me through a $10,000 trucking/heavy equipment course... paid my gas and would have given me living expenses too if I had needed it. Look up 'Second Careers' to see if you qualify.

This was after working for 25 years paying them taxes in a factory - laid off. They want me to get back to work so I can pay them taxes again. They aren't stupid.

I can't see a company paying upwards of 7 grand for you to go to school. At least, that's what the minimum charge is up here in Canada.

People like you need to lay off the liquor whenever you get online. Who in the hell implied I was wanting to borrow tax dollars to go to a trucking school? Did you fathom this idea in your own head, jump to your own conclusions, and then form a bunch of condescending assumptions about my personal life? When someone like me is asking a simple question on a forum intended for help, leave the immaturity and BS remarks at the door.

Ok guys, for starters, I never asked about any grants or tax-based programs. I was asking about COMPANY-SPONSORED training. By this, I am referring to getting trained by the company itself or a sub-contracted program based on a direct loan provided by the company itself. For example, Roehl, Prime, Stevens Transport, Millis Transfer, Swift, etc...there are tons more but I only know a few, hence the reason I was asking if anyone could provide me with more.

As for the Pet Policy situation, I understand that a "beggar" cant be a "chooser", especially in this economy. But am I really begging if it's a policy that's already offered by several trucking companies? It sounds like an option, and I'm simply trying to pursue every option I have available so that I can further accomodate my lifestyle for the trucking career. That's nice that some of you have a wife or kids to take care of your pets while you're on the road for several weeks, but some of us are single and less fortunate. I adopted my dog from an abusive owner 3 years ago, and simply because I'm thinking of choosing the trucking career doesn't mean I should completely abandon him, especially when there are trucking companies that understand my EXACT situation and offer a solution.

I'm a responsible man that's trying to look into a new career in regards to my life, and the options available to me. I am taking further steps by going online and asking REAL drivers questions that most other knuckle-heads figure out when it's far too late and they've already signed the papers.

Now, on to my actual question: I told you guys that I knew Prime offered company-training, and also a pet policy, but I mentioned I was a bit demotivated by the extensivly long training program. I also found out yesterday that FFE also offers training, and they have a pet policy as well.

If you guy know any other companies I should check out, I'd really appreciate the help!

Here's another twist. A buddy of mine from work wants to drive trucks too but he has a misdemeanor from last year. Are there any companies that will hire him? He's got a stable work history otherwise and he says that his only criminal history. It was a disorderly conduct charge.

Con-way offers both? Funny you just mentioned them, because I just go back from shopping and I passed a Con-Way truck on I-59. I'll google them and see what I can find out
