Well I`ll be starting school on Monday and have to start sending out pre-hires. I was wondering what companies have been pretty to good to go with if you`re running out of Cleveland. I`m leaning towards TMC and a flatbed but thought it would be wise to ask the more experienced people on here. Hoping to go regional soon as possible. Any suggestions to research would be welcome. Thanks

I live in Ravenna, about 45 mins from Cleveland. I am looking for a job that is going to get me home more than once a month! I would prefer reefer freight as that seems to be the only segment that is still turning miles.

Hey midknight good luck on your schooling. Bad news is the steel belt ( Cleveland, OH. and surrounding areas) is dry as a bone. Best advice to you is get out of the Buckeye and turn the lights off when you do. I'm not trying to be negative just giving you some insight of the industry as of late.

Ok well what about reefer or van lines? Moving isn`t an option yet since I don`t have the money to and by the time I do have the money I hope to be out on the road and won`t have the time. Best I could probablly do is move south to columbus after a few months but that`s it for now.

Any old time driver will tell you reefer is recession proof. People always have to eat. Also people always have to throw there trash away. I have a real good friend that works for Republic Waste. Last I heard he was making $45,000 to $50,000 a year. I know they are big in your area so look them up too.

Last time I was home I applied to a garbage truck outfit, not even taking apps!

Next stop was a compant that serviced port-a-pottys. I figuured such a crappy job ought to have high turnover. Nope, no drivers needed.

    Next stop, McDonalds???

Want to run reefer, and get home also, call Schuster Co. in LeMars, Ia. I'm home every weekend from Friday afternoon till Monday morning. We have very nice equipment, Int. and Petes, oldest ones are 2006, can run as many or as few miles as you want, I like to run between 2,000 & 2,200 per week, and they have no problem with it, other drivers are getting around 3,000, if you were to go there, they will ask you to ride the grey dog to Sioux City, Ia., a 28 hour ride, but for 40.00 out of pocket you can fly from Cleveland to Sioux City in less than 5 hours, Schuster will reimburse you the price of the Greyhound ticket

Thanks for the info everyone but I just went to my first day of school today and found out there are only 5 companies I can go with because of the externship requirement of my class level......I`m leaning on TMC but have a very disturbing feeling I`m gonna end up with Werner....atleast I can take my dog with me driving for them.

Try Roehl, they've got a dropyard in Akron.
I pulled for those guys for 3 years...not a bad outfit as far as truckload is concerned.
They pay on practical miles vs HHG.
They run vans, flats, curtainside, and reefer.
Paywise...they used to start you out at .28 cpm and then up to .37 cpm after your first year.
Stay away from Werner that's a slave job, man!

Well I just have to wait untill I`m done with class and go from there cause like I said...I have to go to one of the companies that work with the school otherwise I`ll never "technically" graduate.
