This what I was taught to do. Now am I finished with my career ? While driving on US 30 I noticed a car pull into my blind spot behind my trailer. A 53 ' box van. At that moment a flat bed I had been following for 40 miles was hitting his brakes hard and was doing around 45 MPH. He was stopping as to not T-bone a Step Van similar to FED-EX deliver van it was not FED-EX and really not important after the facts So now he is with nowhere to go and I was boxed in. I can't stop since I still have a blind spot with a car behind me. Going left would send me into the back of few cars. Going right take out a few power poles.. So since my choices were limited and also my time since this all happened with in 3- 4 seconds … hitting the back of the flatbed was now a choice I had to consider since time was not on my side. I have never hit anything in my 44 years of driving , now I have my CDL-A with HAZMAT endorsement. And no one will hire me . My kids are all raised, I am not married , nor do I need to be home, to cut the grass, paint the walls. I just want to drive the accident not reported, My license was handed back to me with no citation . My miles were approx. 3500 miles per week...my MVR shows ! Incident.....I will send any documents that will assist...

I am not sure what to tell you. Keep putting in applications! I don't think your career is over, but maybe delayed a bit. You did however do something I have preached to other drivers not to do. You were following another vehicle closer then your vehicle could panic stop in. Never do this. Some drivers do this with headlights at night. Anyway I think you will get through this. Keep us informed.
TheBigDogg and Steel Dragon Thank this. -

...so you were "taught" to rear end the vehicle in front of you instead of getting on the brakes hard just because you've got somebody tailgating you? Whoever taught you that needs to be shot. GET ON THE BRAKES AND AVOID CRASHING INTO THE GUY AHEAD OF YOU!!!!!!!! If the idiot behind you rear ends you, so be it...HIS FAULT!!! By avoiding the brake pedal and instead crashing into the guy ahead of you, IT IS YOUR FAULT! Besides, the ICC bumper is a heck of a lot less likely to incur damage being tapped by a car than the nose of your truck will be running into the back of another truck.
I would've fired you, too, if you told me that you crashed into the guy in front of you to avoid being rear ended. In this industry, rear ending somebody is as bad as laying one over or running under a bridge that was too low. Won't have a job at most companies, and the next one will be tough to come by. I'd wish you the best of luck, but not unless you realize that you were taught wrong and that next time, you need to let the guy behind you worry about himself and YOU need to keep YOU from crashing into whatever is ahead of YOU. -

Try Paschall Truck Lines or Western Express.
Try Craigslist.GiantBeard Thanks this. -
First...you we're following too close...shame on you....case closed...
Second... western express is a rehab company and they will hire you....
Third...increase your following distance...vehicle behind you is not your concern...I think you are simply trying to rationalize your neglect...bottomdumpin, Blackshack46 and Mugg Thank this. -
sevenmph Thanks this.

Why not risk the run off and the light poles, there pretty cheap and break right off. Following tooooooooo close is never a winner..I personally dont care about cars that follow me to close, I do however "lift" until they pass me. Good luck.
