I learned really quick that driving OTR/Regional while being in the guard was a bad combination. I even had one potential employer tell me straight out he wasn't going to hire me because I WAS in the guard.

And yes, I contacted ESGR and fought it. And won and was hired. Only to be fired 3 days after I started because I didn't haul as many loads as one of his other drivers. In short, they FOUND a reason to fire me.

I retired from the guard too.

It sucks, but that is reality.

Thank you for posting this info. I am about to leave for Swift and am also in the guard. I was afraid of this exact thing that I would be charged home time on drill weekends. Although I bet the 10hour rule isnt strongly adhered too.

Yes you might be charged home time on drill weekends. They'll have you start work monday morning if you let them. I wanted to be home every two weeks but I wasn't making any money. My only home time is when I get home for drills. But when I get home I take an extra two days off. If I'd known all of this in the begining I'd of put truck driving on hold until I'm out of the guard.
