Looking for a plan

OK team, here is the deal and the beginnings of a plan.

I'm a new driver with Hazmat and pending Twix. I'm in the unique position of not needing health insurance, have a military retirement coming in and am an empty nester. Time away from home isn't an issue. I also have a very poor credit history (thanks to a very ugly divorce) and no experience. But I do have a clean driving and criminal record.

In three years I will have a windfall that will allow me to buy a new truck and trailer.

I have heard and read the horror stories of becoming a company driver, spending at least 6 months making less tan zip and then the iffy lease options.

Whats the possibility of finding an OO that wants to become a team driver.
If I'm going to make very little, why not make a little more than very little doing what I want to do, with someone I trust and learning the ropes of OO from someone who is already doing it. And...what would be a fair mile rate for someone in my position.

Not looking to get rich. Am looking to learn, drive and be able to pay the bills.
