I feel you. I’m in the south Ga area and most non/hazmat jobs start at $18 hourly. Not TOO horrendous for a new CDL graduate to get experience without going OTR, but even the jobs that require a year or two of exp. start at that. They just don’t wanna pay drivers worth a flip.

True but if others with more experience apply (particularly fuel-hauling exp.) then they will get hired on instead.

Buddy, the current markets are really tight in tankers. So much so that companies can require experience to pull in the best talent available.
Your best bets are in gas hauling.
Circle k is always looking, but i don’t know many others in that area. Find a loading rack and watch the trucks coming out. Throw an app in at every single one, and see what happens.
Driving experience puts you ahead of most other applicants, but behind anyone with tanker experience.
Foodliner might be an option, no hazmat needed.
Brenntag has a terminal in that area that they’re pretty quiet about, and they do local stuff.
    Good luck

You can’t win if you don’t play.
You might get 100 no responses, but you only need one yes.
Getting into tankers isn’t the easiest thing right now.
Lots of people want it because the money is still good. But, there’s many that are chicken to do it because it’s scary to them.
    Rightly so.
If you want it bad enough, you’ll find a way to make it happen.
Training pay is always low. It’s also temporary.
I know our new hires are paid around 600 bucks a week in training, and that doubles soon as they are on their own.
If you can’t pull 1500 a week minimum, you ain’t got a hair on your back side. and we’re one of the lower paying companies in the area.
i stay for the benefits and perks i get being cross trained in everything we pull.

    Zonno and bryan21384 Thank this.

They have a terminal in Valdosta Ga, albeit a small one. That terminal was starting out at $20 hourly in 2021, so it probably pays higher today due to inflation. A bit low for the hazmat side, but still good for getting experience.

They do. In GA they have terminals in Americus, Barnesville, Canton, and Villa Rica.
