Hi there, everyone.
I am looking to get my CDL. I have been accepted to CR England's training program, but they are saying that I will be gone a great deal for around six months from the time I'm hired. I am interested in the opportunity, but this will be a major problem for my wife and me. We are trying to find a way that I can get trained and still be together during that time. It is a matter of her safety for me to be with her in general, or at least have me home with her at night, as she has recieved threats on her life recently. Law enforcement is assisting in the situation, but it is still not safe to leave her alone at night.
If anyone has knowledge of companies that might allow my wife to ride along during training, or which would allow a home-every-night type of training, we would be extremely grateful to hear it. We are open to taking out a loan for me to go to a private school if that will make the difference. We are in the Sacramento, CA area, but we would also consider relocating for the appropriate opportunity.
Any advise will be extremely helpful. THANK YOU!
Looking for a way to stay together with my wife during CDL training

I think U.S Express @Chinatown will be along soon and help you.
Panamerican Thanks this. -
If your wife had a cdl she could train you.
CJ701 and Panamerican Thank this. -
My advice would be to stay home til the danger has passed. Or move from the area.
No OTR company is going to allow 3 people in a truck for 6 weeks. And the odds are stacked against you in finding local work that will hire a new CDL grad.RDTrucking, wore out, CJ701 and 3 others Thank this. -
Hey guys, I want to thank you so much for your input.
Thelushlarry -- Thank you for the heads up, I'll be looking out for Chinatown's advice.
Rabbiporkchop -- Yes, it would be great if she did have her own CDL. Wish she did. Unfortunately that's not the case.
RustyBolt -- I agree, it would definitely be better to wait. The problem is that work is hard to find in my previous fields of work right now and we're broke. I'm curious, it looks like you're saying it only takes 6 weeks for training, whereas CR England said it would be 6 months. Are there other places that train in only 6 weeks and then she could ride along while I'm already working? Or is that 6 weeks plus the remainder of the 6 months for mandatory team driving work with an experienced driver, during which she still couldn't come along? Also, since it's unlikely I could get hired locally at first, is there still a possibility of getting trained privately locally and then switch to nation-wide work right after training (if I'm lucky) and she could come right away?
Thank you again for the help. You seem like a great community. -
If you're needed at home don't become or train to be OTR truck driver. Get training for forklift driver or ssomethin else.
Opus, Panamerican, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Panamerican and Maj. Jackhole Thank this.

Go to a private cdl school in your area so you can be home every night.
I don't know of any company that will let her ride along during training. If she can also attend cdl school with you, then Covenant Transport will train you both at the same time in the same truck. Their training trucks are set up for 3 people. But, you both must graduate from cdl school to do this.

Depending on your location, there is local work available for new cdl school graduates.
Where is your location; state & nearest city?Panamerican Thanks this. -
