Probably because its more efficient than using his cell phone.. Idk, just a guess.
In some states ya don't have room to pull over and use the atlas.

I've put 160,000~ miles on an inexpensive World Nav GPS and its never put me on a non truck route, or through a low clearance. You have to combine the GPS with the atlas, shipper directions and plain ol common sense, of course.

Not callin ya out but I can't stand when people act like a GPS doesn't work as advertised.

Well, a driver shouldn't have to pull over to check their route, after having prepared the route while the brakes are still set.

Exactly. But, my point is, why spend the $ on a truck-specific app when in order to complete your due diligence you have to check your route with the paper RMMCA anyway, no matter which GIS app one might choose?

But, that's not what I wrote, or implied, in any manner. I'm not the gpsman because I don't like GPS.

Thank you all very much for the help, this is why I love this site!!! As I started looking at the different gps units and reading the comments on here, It made sense that a "regular" gps unit would work, since he always double checks the route with his map book and then calls me to triple check the route with mapquest and my MY map book!!!LOL Although I will say that after reading (I'm really big on researching "EVERYTHING") more about the co pilot software I think we are going to go with that, even if he doesn't use it for gps, it looks to have some great and useful features!!! Thank you again to EVERYONE who replied and if anyone has any advise on which cell phone carrier is the best for east of the Mississippi line I could use that info too!!!LOL I check coverage maps, but there's no better knowledge than experience!!!

"Best" is subjective. ..its based on opinion. I prefer the Garmin 7" trucker gps. I think its the "best" others like Rand McNally, yet others like Cobra.

I've been most pleased with my Verizon service. But I've also read on the forum others being pleased with a different carrier.
