Hi! I am in the process of getting a new truck. I just got my CDL but it seems like there a ton of compliance stuff I need to complete before I can get it all sorted out and get hired. Is there anyone here who got there CDL recently and can perhaps share a checklist of all the documents that I need to file before potentially getting hired .

You may want to slow down a little bit. Brand new CDL Holder AND you are buying a Truck? Recipe for disaster. You really need to be a Company Driver for a few years before you make that leap. I doubt that there are any Insurance Companies that would even sell you a policy. If they did, It would probably cost more than the Truck. Good luck

Came in to say this .
That’s a disaster just looking for a place to happen. An expensive disaster.
You need to drive a company truck for a year or two and learn how the business works with someone else’s money first.

I did exactly that. I got my CDL and did a lease purchase ,pulling their company trailers but it was with a company that was actually honest and had plenty of freight , they lined up all the loads, and paid the owner ops on a combo of daily pay, mileage pay and stop pay and detention pay.

I managed to be successful at it but this was years ago, and the company took care of all the paperwork , insurance , plates etc.
The owner ops had to pay for all that but the company did all the paperwork stuff .

See if you are even ably to get insurance. I'm independent 3+ y ears now and to out the gate get a cdl and then a truck. Fact and honest truth i would have gone broke. 25k for insurance a year + who knows on a trailer i pay 600 and its 2019 and it's mine I thought new truck or new trailer. I'll go trailer then truck. Trailers if maintenance is done and its cared for last longer then a truck. I one my 05 volvo. I have learned a very lot. I was a company driver for 5 years before i went solo.
