Hi. I'm with V.S.S. transportation group out of Carrollton Texas .and they have a yard in Houston and Sulpher Springs. This is mostly Dry van , but some reefer and container. I've worked previously with several big companies including prime. This co. V.S.S. is the my favorite. I love this place! They run you 3k per week ..plus get bonuses , and pd. Vacation and holidays. Layover pay . Extra stop pay. New Volvo's with ability to run up to 75mph. No sensors or beeping on tablets..they leave you alone to do the runs and you get home basically when you need , with running 2 weeks out. 2 to 3 days home ..also they understand if you need a extra day . This co. Has been good to me and theh are up standing with the pay..check them out . God bless

@flipz34--first of all--THANK YOU--for your service to our great Country!!!! :headbang::headbang::headbang::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

Since you are already applying for hazmat & a TWIC, you may want to (also) think "outside the box" (literally), and.....

    GO TANKER!!!

A great place to start off in tanker, especially given your previous experience, would probably be something like:

    CAREERS & APPRENTICE PROGRAM | wdtmilk.com

They have terminal locations in Windhorst & Stephenville, TX.

And no, I don't drive for them....or work with them otherwise (past--or present).

I haul fuel in south Ga & north Fla.

FYI: a lot of drivers that later switch from pulling boxes to tanker wish they had done so, earlier.

Ya'll hire straight out of CDL school? I'm in the DFW area, never heard of this company but looks good.

I drove local for about ten years. First a set of bottom dumps then gas trucks. All day cabs, no OTR. Got side swiped and hurt my back. I was out of the industry doing office work for ten years when I decided to get back in.
You actually have more recent experience than me and I found a pretty good place to start back in. Don't sell yourself short.
I had never backed a sleeper truck with a 53' reffer trailer on it till now. I was like a virgin on prom night, it might take awhile but eventually I'll get it in the hole.
I still suck at backing in but I get a little better every time. I've done a bunch of places that you have to jack knife the truck to get in between two other rigs. You learn each time to do it a little smoother. Who cares if you have to pull up a bunch of times as long as you don't hit anything.

Look up Dunning–Kruger effect. I realized I have this problem and it sounds like you do too. Not the idiot that thinks they know what they are doing :Dbut the other side of it.
I (and I think you too) know how much I don't know so I underestimate my abilities.
It sounds like you'll succeed wherever you go so aim high. Good luck.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. I was a Yard driver at a Walmart DC before getting my cdl. 7 years of stacking boxes in a trailer before i got a full time hosteller spot.
