Ok, so... I'm currently a CDL holder w/ limited experience. 5 months OTR (reefer) total, but it has been over 5 years since I've driven (an 18 wheeler). I have a clean MVR, no criminal history and my DAC is clean, as well. My hazmat endorsement just expired, but I can obtain it again, no problem there and I have all the other endorsements w/ exception to passengers... My question is... What, if any, are my chances of getting hired onto a company w/o having to go through the schooling process? What company will hire me? Or... Just general advice as to what my options are...

all you could do is apply but more than likely you'll have to take a refresher

Most companies require X number of months in the last 3 years

Ya gotta agree with 123456, you will be very lucky if they only have you take a refresher and go with a trainer.

I have 16 years experience and have been off the road for right at 3 years and would have a tough time getting back into it!

Yeah, that is what most recruiters said. I was hoping there would be another option, but I think re-schooling it will be.... On top of that I have a 3 year gap in my work history, because I opted to take care of my grandparents before they passed away, so hopefully that isn't something that will hold me back, aswell.

I too had old experience. I chose to go back to a full school. Got hired on with superservice. Roehl called me 8 days later. Great just great. Anyway; going thru training now. Employment gaps can be effectively tackeled by good affidavits. Ask recruiter for aff. forms. Get three and get them noterized if you can. Just more hoops.
