Howdy drivers. I was a Werner driver and left after about 10 months with the company to go local for family reasons. Witch the local company didn't last long due to a foreman that thought he could treat everyone like mind reading dogs. Now I'm back to where I can get back on the road again. Werner has said to me there door is open if I chose to return.
Now what companies do you guys think that are fair to there drivers and would take a driver that been out of the truck for a couple of years, or would I be better off returning to Werner for the experience then moving on to a higher paying company?
Looking for alittle advice.

What were your likes and dislikes about them? Im curious so I can tell my friend and he can decide then if he still wants to go there. He is a student at the school Im going to and we will be graduating next friday.
Any input would be appreciated. -
My experience overall was good, only major issue I had was with Dollar General and the way they like to just throw there freight in the trailers. My best advice to your friend is make sure his trainer is a company driver and not a O/O. Most of Werners O/O's want a slave not a trainee. Also get on a dedicated run as quick as possible, if his trainer happens to be on a dedicated run and your friend has no issue with the run or the trainer. That trainer may be able to get him on there. If not Werner's going to stick him over the road at .24 per mile. -
So how long have you been local??
How long has it been since you last run OTR?
How long has it been since you drove a class A vehicle?
All that need to be answered. Help us help you. Otherwise, we'll be posting anything and everything. -
The local job lasted less then a couple of months, its been 2 years +/- a month since I have drove a truck OTR or local. -
You can look elsewhere, before you make that leap. But I would just about bet money, you are going to run into problems. Based on the length of time you have been out of a truck.
It's still worth a shot though. -
Yeah I kind of figured I'ed be best to go back for the experience. At least I will be able to jump right back where I was when I left. -
Thanks. -
No problem at all. -
But the way things are now... companies are hammering you for tight work records and experience. Making it difficult to take a break from trucking, if you want to.
I can well remember when 90 days experience, without a trainer would get you a job. If you could pass the road test. That's all that was required.
NOW, they want a 10 work history, school records, police records, drug test...the list goes on and on and on.
Hell, I keep expecting someone to ask for my first born as a sacrifice.
