$70k a year is a dream for newbies. Will never be a reality until you have a solid few years driving experiences with no accidents and tickets. All of those advertisement only stated that you have the potiential to make $70k to $90K as a new driver. Hence potiential. To get there, you must get 3400 miles weekly times 52 week and at 0.42 equals roughly $74k. Add the hiring bonus and other bonus and you should get $$80k your first year.

I seriously doubt you can consistantly get 3400 miles a week, never go home, have no truck breakdown, and work all 52 weeks in a year.

FWIW, I saw Nussbaum drivers picketing in Illinois about 4 years ago.

newbies should be ok with making 45 to 55k on the first year, second year with hazmat and having a fair hometime should be in the mid 60k to low 70's don't dream of 80 and having a family until you go specialized and local for example... theres a company here that starts you at 18 dollars an hour but you will use your 14th everyday.. those guys are in the mid 60's

If you have no violations and good PSP score, go to work for FEDEX Freight. You may have to go to remote areas first then transfer back. The pay is great. My brother works for them and got top pay within 3 years. His Line haul pays 0.62 per mile as a company driver and he gets additional pay for fueling and traffic jams. He is local and home every day and no weekends.

Reading? Ha that is highly overated now a days. Don't even need that skill to get a CDL anymore!

Seriously you will probably have a hard time in your area because of all the flood of low wage borderline shady 1099 outfits and mega newbie companies.
It is sad anymore that companies see veteran drivers with real experience as a something they don't want.
