What about Central Carolina Community College in Dunn? When I lived in NC, admittedly 9 years ago they offered CDL training.

Also Davidson County CC by High Point is offering one. I would spend some time on the net, or even better, contact the career councilor at the nearest community college and see what they can find for you.

I didn't go to CCCC back then either, it was almost 100 miles one way for me, and I couldn't justify doing that kind of driving for a month in the '79 F150 I drove then, which got a whopping 7-9 miles to the gallon.

Workforce Investment Act. I believe it is a state run program funded by the federal government. It is available through your local employment security office. Basically they provide funding for displaced workers or unemployed individuals who have been out of work for six months to go to school for training so they can go back to work. You can do a search through one of the big search engines and get info. JCC office will be able to give you info on program. I must warn you each ESC office seems to have different rules.

    davidw and chirp63 Thank this.

Do you have any friends or family that you could bunk at in Johnston County (or nearby)? I went to school in Raleigh with a guy from Greenville who stayed at his relatives during the week. Then he went home for the weekend to be with his family.

WIA is definately an option. I hear it is a little harder to get into now than it was 6 months ago. You can check with the Unemployment Office in Greenville.

And now ask yourself.... How bad do you want it? And what obstacles are you willing to overcome? You can get around these walls..... I'm not trying to be ugly here..... I promise.... but it sounds like you might have to make some compromises.

    Scooterdawg,

I wouldn't qualify for WIA since I'm not unemployed. I talked to a guy yesterday from Carolina trucking academy and they're asking the same price as Sage for their program. What school in Raleigh did you go to?

I went to Carolina Trucking Academy. No regrets. The trucks were hard to drive and the instructors were great. I would recommend them to anyone.

Who did you talk to? Charlie, Victor, or Donna?

Not sure who I talked to. He said that a new class starts every monday. Thats great to hear. Do you know if they offer financing or do they expect payment in full upfront?

Have you checked to see if you qualify for the Workforce Investment Act grant at the local employment office? I went to school on one in '06.
