I am looking around to get started driving. CRST seems the most enthusiastic and experienced in taking on inexperienced drivers, but Fontana, CA is a long way from where I live here in Davis, CA. I am wondering if there are any similar opportunities in the Sacramento area, especially west of Sacramento. Even just Northern California would be an improvement.

Did you try Swift...terminal down in Lathrop (Stockton)? You won't necessarily appreciate the "contract" you will be forced to sign with CRST!

Yes, I am looking into Swift, but it could be that CRST has a drop yard near Lodi that is even closer.

Please explain this "contract". What is there that I will not appreciate?

There are some threads about CRST...something about a required commitment that you CAN'T get out of...and other companies have been sued by CRST for hiring a driver that hasn't fulfilled the terms to CRST. I don't know if that is if the student goes through their school or not. But the issue is definitely something to research.

You will be teaming with CRST for the first YEAR...a very good company for the rookies is Watkins-Shepherd...Missouls, MT...I don't know about the transportation to their facility...there it is 10 days of intense orientation, then you are sent out on your own, no trainer, no team! Check them out also!

Thanks for that, but their closest terminal is in Modesto which is even farther than Stockton. I would rather drive a team for at least my first 1000 miles or so. It looks to me like team driving is where the money is at. And I would rather expect to stay with the company for at least a year. Stability is what I need at this point and an opportunity to show that I'm up to it.

If I decide it's that important to look clean and happy all the time, I'll quit truck driving and become a movie star instead. :glasses2:

    Thanks for that.

Hasties looks good. They have a website, http://www.gohasties.com/

Matheson Postal looks really good, they also have a website, http://www.mathesoninc.com/ But I don't see anything that looks like they'll take inexperienced drivers. All their openings are for experienced drivers. But they are much more California centered than a lot of fleets seem to be. Seems like all the fleets are back east.

Atlas Disposal has a website, http://www.atlasdisposal.com/ but they don't post positions or opportunities on line.

I couldn't find any "Silverado Trucking" in Sacramento on Google. Got a link?

best thing to do with all the companys that i list is go and put apps in at them. hasties and silverado building materials are on hwy 16 between watt and bradshaw, matheson postal is off richards and bannon, atlas disposal is off power inn. i take it u just got out of school my frist stop would be hasties if he needs a driver ull probley get a job. and u'll get a little more out of it then just drivin a truck u'll learn how to run a wheel loader cause some loads ull load out of the yard. u'll learn were some of the agg plants are then after u get a little exp use what u learned there to open more doors for u, and if u decied to go otr at least u'll have some drive time and time to get shifting down ect. if u want any more info pm me.
