After a lot of thinking, decided that I will be applying at dryvan and refrigerated companies when I get out of the Army and finish truck driving school. I'm mainly looking for companies that have APU's and/or inverters as I'm going to eat healthy while on the road, and eating at the truck stops is not the way to do it. I'd prefer a company that allows pets, but I can deal with one that doesn't.

Companies that I have personally looked into and checked off my list:
U.S. Xpress- seems to be more team oriented than singles.
Paschall Truck Line- no exception to their 18 and over rider policy (would like to take my 12 year old daughter on the road during the summer)
Covenant- not interested in potentially being run like a team when I'm supposed to be learning the job.
CRST- not remotely interested in teaming, plus their terrible reputation.
C.R. England- reputation alone steered me away from even looking into them.
Werner- 26 cpm, no way in hell I will drive for that.
    Knight- terrible reputation

I'm all ears for anyone's suggestions on who to check out further, just getting frustrated with all of this lol

So far you have done good accurate research. My requirements were the same as yours. If I could do it over again I would choose dry van over reefer. Reefer pays more but getting tired of this loud thing and waiting in line in freezers at crazy night hours. Plus the reefer breaking down even when your truck is running good delays you. Good luck.

Look at ozark in your area. We have apus, inverters, riders I think 10+ year old. We have a yard in Lebanon,Tn and lenoir,nc. We also do a lot of Tn,Ga,Nc and Sc so you could be home every weekend (If you want).

Thanks, I'll give Ozark a call. I decided to give myself a bit more recovery time from shoulder surgery. Even though I'll be cleared to go flatbedding, I am going to ease myself into the OTR lifestyle and then if flatbedding still appeals to me, I'll apply at those companies then.

Navajo Express - pets/APU's/Inverters/call about rider

HO Wolding - rider/pet/don't know about APU or Inverter

Halvor Lines - rider policy/ call about inverter & pet

    Watkins-Shepard - pet policy/ call about inverter & rider

Ozark Motor Lines - rider(10 yrs. or older)/APU/pet policy

National Carriers - rider/pet/call about inverter etc.

Note : don't just look at mileage pay; mileage pay is just part of the pay equation. Assessorial pays add up to thousands a year with the right company. A few pennies per mile doesn't mean much at all if the assessorial pays aren't there.

Thanks, I talked to a recruiter from H.O. Wolding, and they don't hire in the area I'll be living in. I've checked out Watkins & Shepard before, decided not to consider them. I will check out Halvor Lines and National Carriers, though. I've seen National Carriers delivering pretty regularly to the commissary at Ft. Hood, TX; so they must be doing alright.
