Long time lurker, first time poster....

I think I will be driving from Canton, OH to San Bernardino, CA and back in early November....I'll be in a pickup truck with small enclosed trailer on the back.

Pretty sure I'll be taking I-70 to I-40 when I go out, and I'll prolly come up through Vegas and through Denver on I-70 when I come home.

What I'll looking for is some nice places to stop and see, like the St. Louis Arch for example. You guys see the country all the time on these roads, and it only makes sense to ask you guys. Also, Can you suggest any good/safe places to stop and sleep on the way out and back? I'm thinking I'll sleep in the truck while on the road to save some cash.

    Thanks for any info.

Well you can go through the grand canyon or the arches and though vail or wolf creek pass that is if you enjoy nature. horseback riding, atving, jeeping, white water rafting, hiking, all kinds of pretty stuff

You will see some absolutely incredible real estate after you get on 70 in Utah on your way back. That section of 70 between 15 and Denver is beautiful. Take your camera because your friends won't believe you.

On 70 in Colorado before you get into Denver, please be mindful of the trucks and how they have to operate in mountain terrain. If you pass one going down a hill then slow down too much on your way up the next one, don't be surprised to see the grill of that truck in your back seat. In order to make it up certain grades, trucks cannot back out of the throttle or they lose all momentum.

Also, make sure you carry a set of chains. They are required to carry over Vail after Sep 1. Many auto parts stores have a buy-back program for chains. If you buy them and don't use them you can take them back for a refund.

    Enjoy your trip.

Me personally cause I hate driving the mountains in the winter I would run 40 across Ar/Nm but it seems you want adventure so just be very careful up there in Colorado!

    All great info! Thank you!

I'll for sure head home through the mountains. I've been to Denver twice, and I love the mountains.

I love seeing nature, so anything like the grand canyon, etc is perfect.
