Hi I'm trying to decide which company too work for and could use some help making a decision. The 2 company's I am considering are Schneider's tanker division out of Indianapolis Indiana and Knight Transports Refrigerated Division out of Columbus OH. Knight Refrigerated's Terminal is 10 miles from where I live on the south side of Columbus OH. anyways I am a student on my last week of training for Roadmaster Drivers School and will test for my cdl this coming friday. I have all endorsments including hazmat ready to go for when I buy my cdl. I don't really care about how long I'm out and I am mainly looking for otr and have no restrictions really whatsoever (I'm 22 and single with nothing to tie me to one place). Anyways I really would like input on both company's and what to expect but both seem great too start out with but I'm looking for input on both if possible because I just cant make up my mind.
Looking for help Deciding Between Knight Refrigerated and Schneider National

I would call up Schneider if I was you tell them you know they have the dedicated Honda account in Mansfield Ohio just north of Columbus and tell them you want in on that account it is 450 miles a day and you get home every night might be 500 somewhere around that
-
What company are you most interested in?Kind of a tough decision because knight is only 10 miles from you.But I heard Schneider is a real good company.I never hear anything bad about them. But knight is more commonly called knightmare if that tells you anything.
-
Well I'm interested in both really, however I'm looking for more information to choose better so Could you please explain why knight is known as knightmare.

I would go to and learn to do tankers at Schneider! Not everybody can yank a tank and you have alot of interesting jobs you can do and most of them pay more than hauling a box. Except for LTL guys, most of the Drivers I know that make really good money and are home alot more to boot, are tanker guys. I am currently looking to find my first tanker company after doing dryvan and open top trailers for 9 years. Thought I had a fuel gig lined up, but I didn't get it.

thanks scyth08 I am kinda Leaning more towards a tanker position at Schneider the one that's out of Indianapolis is an over the road tanker position that requires me have the ability to park my personal vehicle in their Indianapolis terminal which is ok with me just hope my car has enough life in it for the trip ...................................... on a side note Schneider will be giving me 24 days of tanker training in green bay Wisconsin on top of the three weeks at Roadmaster which not a bad thing at all I suppose. the pay up too 43cents a mile which is one of those candy coated things. Now I have sat down and Listen too knight Refrigerated's Terminal Manager Dan kutter twice now who tries not to sell his company too you and explains how a sliding pay scale is better than the pay per mile and other pay plans other company's offers. He also mentions alot about some of the things other company's do to recruit Driver's he even gave me a tour of his terminal and a truck Because he qoute "believes I'm a great fit for his company" But maybe its just me but during the tour he seemed unusually uncomfortable and couldn't maintain eye contact during our conversations which leaves me to believe there's something I'm not seeing.

Knight refrigerated should keep you busy...Schneider tanker on the other hand is really good...you will get paid for everything and will make very decent $$ for starting out... Plus getting chemical tanker experience is extremely valuable experience to get.

Knight is like the HS boy who is on the trail of a 'hottie' girl.
At 1st, he says and does everything to make himself look 'studly' and get her interest.(recruitment)
Then He flatters her and tells her what she wants to hear.(the usual recruiter
mis-info, aka 'lies')
Then he gets a date with her (orientation) and smoozes her but doesnt tell her ALL about himself.
Then he finally gets her to bed and uses her for his 'purposes'. (1st year 'honeymoon period)
After getting into her pants, he starts treating her with disrespect and ends up abusing her.(the euphoria has worn off)
Then she finally gets fed up with him and leaves with her 'soiled' reputation (reality hits... ref all the disgruntled driver posts on here).....capiche?!
NOTE: Oh, yeah, some girls are 'codependent' w/no self respect, and still stay with the abuser boyfriend, denying all to justify their relationship.......Last edited: Apr 30, 2013

wow.
Thank you overdrive, I feel I need a shower and some medical attention now

Knight is what you make of it. It is a ok company. The reffer side will keep you busy for sure. On the other hand, tank is what you call a higher form of trucking. It takes a certain type of person to want to do that. If going to highly dangerous chemical plants and hauling around hazordous materials or liquids sounds like a real fun and challenging thing to do, go for Schneider then. They have a excellent tank training program. Or you could drive 10 miles to the reffer yard and know that you will run to grocery DC's, making sure your temps are always correct. Make sure that when you get loaded/unloaded that they don't try to stick you with a bad batch of strawberries or something. Making your ontime deliveries at 0200 or 0000 or 0330 0r 1500, depending where you go. Paying the lumper all the time. Its a toss up I think, that's why I went dedicated and pull doubles instead!Good luck in your choice, and I hope in some way this helps. Not going to sugar coat it for you. I just want you to be able to work and have fun doing it.

The tanker drivers I've met in the past say that the $$$ is good, but one must be disciplined and consistent in their work & safety practices to survive w/o injury or causing environmental spills/damage!
Ergo, if one is 'accident prone' they shudnt even consider it...need to be almost 'robotic' in their work practices!
