Hello all, I've just finished a year OTR with Swift and I'm looking for something with more hometime, ideally local home daily but regional home weekly is okay. I have tank and doubles/triples, and I'm about to test for hazmat once I get back home again. I have an automatic restriction and I'm looking into getting rid of it, I currently live in Washington, D.C. Thank you in advance.

Home daily, look at food service like Sysco or soft drink and beer distributors. It's hard work in city traffic all day. They are always hiring because the turnover is pretty high. Also, dump truck & construction is home daily.

Put your city and trucking company into Google Maps, start making phone calls and searching for those names online.

See if you can find a P&D position with an LTL carrier, or if you don't mind working nights you can haul auto parts from the warehouse to the stores for O'Reilly, Autozone, etc.

Once you get your hazmat you can apply for fuel hauling positions, microbulk, and maybe cryo.

Thanks all for the answers, I see several LTL companies with terminals around DC, food service, and I'll check out that beer distributor. Before I got my CDL I worked 4 years as a receiver unloading trucks at Lowe's, hand truck, pallet jack, forklift etc, I wonder if that'll count as touch freight experience. Do you guys think the season I start looking matters, as in should I stay with Swift through the winter or does it not matter if I leave now or not?

Freight generally slows down around Christmas & stays slow for a month or two. But that applies to general freight & flatbed more than many dedicated accounts, reefer, food & beverages.

It doesn't seem important to me when you change jobs as much as you REALLY need to research your next job as much as possible, not just what you can easily do online with no effort. Online only is not enough, in my opinion. Every company has drivers, but not every company has drivers on this forum that can tell you current info. Ask any company to have a current driver contact you so you can get info to make a decision. Then ask those drivers to tell you their typical pay amount, miles or schedules, anything you want to know. Don't waste time asking "do you make good money, get miles, have good schedule, like company." You want them to give you details, not make decision for you. His "good pay, miles, schedules" may not be good for you. You need him to give you number & details not just say "good, bad, or not too bad".
