Prime also babysits drivers a lot closer than Swift ever has.

Prime, as I've said before, is a decent place for company drivers. They push that lease pretty hard, though, because that's where they make the most money. Heck, they can't help but make money when the lease payment is over $800/week. But, they do have nice equipment.

With Prime, you are completely reliant on a single individual to make a paycheck and they are very heavily into the East/NorthEast. You get sent NorthEast and will stay there for weeks on end. I threatened to set a mailbox up at the Pittston terminal because I was up there so much. I was told they don't like to send solo drivers west during the winter. That never made sense to me.

Now. I don't see where anybody is bashing Prime. I don't see where anybody is not telling the truth about Swift. I'm just not going to blow sunshine up a guy's kiester about either company.

Prime does not have any dedicated accounts that I know of. They have the WalMart contract in Maine, but they cycle drivers in and out of it. There's one guy up in Easton, ME who "yard jockeys" at the french fry factory. Swift has far more opportunities to get on a dedicated account that can get someone home at least once each week and still make a decent paycheck.

Yes, noobs start out at a lower rate with Swift than at Prime. But, that's not the only reason to sign on with a company. And, in most cases, noobs start out on the slipseat fleet. But if they show they're willing to work, they can quickly move off that fleet and not have to turn in the truck for home time. Our O/P is looking hard at the weight permitted division. I have never heard of them slipseating.

As I said before. It depends on which flavor of BS you can tolerate better.

As a side question, why do you have a sig pic of a tanker that's not a Prime, if you're so proud of the company?

the pic. i was trying to put up a line of the trucks ive ran. but you can only have one pic. to lazy to change it

I'm not so proud of prime. I'm trying to show both sides on this post. I like prime better, except for the constant mpg crap. It's almost impossible to make that cuttoff in these mountains.

But you brought up a good point. DM's Prime has one solo person. At swift I had a crappy brand new know nothing dm. And that hurt every aspect of my job. I'd call in and try to talk to a different dm just to get moving. My FM now, at prime, is great. SHe is on her game, so things are going great for me. That does make a huge difference no matter what company your with.

really this guy needs to do the best research he can and pick the company that will fit him the best, I only intended to jump in her and defend the lightweight truck rumor. I guess I got a little carried away.

I spoke with my Columbus recruiter about this. She said if an applicant even mentions "I sure would like to be home every week," you'll be put on the Family Plan and will slipseat. You'll also drive less than 2,000 miles a week. But if one does not mention it and says something like "I want 48 OTR" - as I did - that's where you're most likely going to go...they want noobs who want to be used and abused! :biggrin_25511:

You can, however, create an album and put all the pics you want in it.

Prime definitely does not have that. Good luck! I hope you get your heavy haul, no matter WHAT the definition!
