I got a call from both saying they reviewed my app and would like to speak with me. I live in San Antonio. Gazelle says they pay 89K, but it sounds fishy. Anyone got any experience or heard anything about either of these companies? I'd appreciate it.

Everyone has different situations and needs. I've talked to a lot of 3rd party drivers who were making significantly more money than company drivers...hauling the exact same loads. I actually talked to director of crude operations today... he was approving me to work for one of their 3rd party carriers. He flat out told me that the 3rd party drivers were making more money than his drivers.

For me, I prefer a sleeper truck...for 2 reasons. 1. I absolutely despise slipseating 2. I want to save what I make in the oilpatch and go back home once in a while vs spending money on housing away from home.

What exactly is a third-party employer? I've always been a company man so I'm not used to it

So are you saying that one tends to have slipseating and the other doesn't. Which one tends to have which?

The larger companies: Plains Marketing, Sentinel, Enterprise, Chesapeake...the list is long. They are buying the oil from the producers, picking it up out in the field and bringing it to their infrastructure...could be a pipeline, refinery, port...whatever. When they have more oil than they can haul, they contract with a 3rd party to help them get the oil moved.

Most 3rd parties are going to require experience and I advise those that are new to the trucking industry to stay away from 3rd party carriers. The very large and established 3rd party's are good...but none that I know of hire newbies. The smaller 3rd party's can be a mixed bag. Some are good, some are not good at all. You need to know quite a bit about the industry to be able to make a good move with 3rd party carriers.

There are some very large and very well established 3rd party carriers out there. They would be an obvious and good choice. Problem is...most of them are going to operate very similar to the big companies.... slip seat, day cabs, no housing, etc. And they want experience.

Slip seating is when there is 2 drivers per truck...each drive a 12hr shift and return to the yard...the next guy takes it for his 12.

here is my experience with gazelle...

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...um/222470-warning-gazelle-transportation.html

updates from that point on, local manager fired, regional manger left, replaced with a former Taylor manager.... now this is in wyoming. Hiring practice has not changed, they will hire more drivers than needed to move the oil, and then cut everyone's load count so everyone gets a load...

Now there are some drivers that are very happy with gazelle. They do pay well, the benefit package is good, but they are a 3rd party carrier, which means the volume of work fluctuates greatly. And if you want to become a "preferred driver" who always gets the loads, you have to travel to other terminals to help out when that terminal can not handle the volume. 100% slip seat, on a 5 on 2 off, then 5 on, 3 off, rotation...

Offload stations can also be a problem, with long waits.

Most of my contacts with gazelle have left them since the first of this year.

And on another note, the president of gazelle tried to have the above linked thread removed... Truckers report refused, so then he contacted me, to have it deleted, as it is hurting his image. Image is everything to him. Not hard to figure out that I posted the information.

Careful, he might call his buddies and black ball you........but good for you!! Keep posting ! If the rest of these drivers would smarten up we could use social media to crush the bad players out here .........

    good luck

if he did, it did no good... they have lost 3 major contracts, in this area, and I won my termination without cause.
